Thoughts?

Just delisted by the Hawks...was hoping he would slide to 14 in the 2006 draft...looked so bloody good in the champs and has just had a bad run with injuries.

Would love to see the crows give him a crack...would even take him with our third or fourth rounder if the docs gave him the all clear...

I remember watching him and he reminded me so much of how Jono Brown plays.

Has a terrible attitude (very cocky) and doesn't seem to have the work ethic to make it at AFL level. Wouldn't fit in our culture so I doubt we'll take him. Very talented though.

Gets! i share your thoughts.

Thorp was one I hoped we had a chance of securing back in 06.

With the loss of Gill, Gallman and Lee. Plus the impending retirement of Burton, I think we will draft at least 1 tall in the upcoming draft. Maybe Thorp could be that player

I'm all for picking up recycled players if they're a genuine bargain, and genuinely worth it, but that happens so rarely that it's barely worth mentioning.

Players who are delisted by their clubs (as opposed to the distinctly different scenario of picking up a player who is still wanted, but not valued higher than what we offer) are, generally speaking, delisted for very good reasons.

I want to know how many delisted players (at any early age) actually go on to make something of their careers. I'd say very, very few. There's a reason these youngsters are delisted, and why would Hawthorn delist a former #6 pick with reportedly so much potential and the fact he has a year to run on his contract if there weren't serious question marks over his health/attitude? I heard about a year or maybe even just 6 months ago that his body was shot.

IF his body passes all the tests and if he can prove that he's not going to be cocky and have a major attitude then possibly, but very unlikely.

Wasn't he the one that didn't want to travel any further west than the Vic/SA border, and made it known, especially to Choco?

I suspect it's a little from this column - and a little from the other.

I tend to believe them when they say that he requested to be traded, but no trade could be worked out - noting that they were flat out getting the Burgoyne trade sorted for most of the week. The Gibson trade was the first one to go through and was obviously agreed prior to the commencement of trade week. The only other trade they did was McGlynn & Kennedy to the Swans for a couple of late draft picks - essentially a nothing trade.

However, I also believe that the Hawks were reasonably happy to agree to his departure for all the reasons mentioned on this thread.

FWIW, I can't see the Crows chasing him given the opinions expressed by Matt Rendell (as reported on BigFooty). Seems fairly plain to me that he doesn't think much of the kid.

We already have enough cocky youngsters (eg Walker) - but unlike Thorp they have shown that they have good reason to be cocky. We're offloading Gill because he is injury prone - we don't need to replace him with another injury prone player, even if he is several years younger.

At #61, then most likely yes. But I'm not certain we'd get a chance.

Attitude problems, yes. Sudden delisting with no explanations smells fishy, yes. Filling a list deficiency, no. But talent is talent.

I believe most, if not all, of the Hawthorn players did not want to go to Port Power.

Nobody wants to go to Port Power, so dont put the AFC in the same basket:thumbsu:

A lot of young draftees don't want to come here either, because they don't want to leave Victoria. They usually display their poor attitude by tanking the interviews with the interstate clubs, like Rioli did in the 07 draft, because stating it outright is draft tampering. My memory doesn't stretch that far, but it would not surprise me in the slightest bit if Thorp did the same thing.

FWIW its not only the Vic guys who do this, word I have is a certain highly touted Crows draftee did similar(ie tanked all his interviews bar one), which may have contributed, amongst other things, to his falling to our rather late 1st round pick.

If that was Pfeiffer, as it turned out, the only interview that he acted out of character in was ours. :D
