Wow - the data maps on shot location and accuracy was amazing. The drop off in frequency and accuracy as you get closer to the 3 point line. Risk v reward has such an impact. Also - not many more ways to confirm your nerdish tendencies than getting excited by an article on sports statistical analysis.

I'm sure many of us geeks would love to see what stats the coaches get access to. However if basketball is an order of magnitude harder to track than baseball, then AFL with 18 players per side, varied oval sizes (and just ovals rather than diamonds or rectangle fields in general), and games in doors or outdoors in various weather conditions would make it 10 times harder to do at such a granular level.

I think this is why we appointed a GPS analyst in the off season - any edge over the competition will come from knowing where and when you score and when you don't.
