Should we give Mooney the sending off he deserves aka should he play in the finals or not?

I think if we go far the possibility of seeing Moons in the finals will get lower. I for one would love to see him kick a few goals in the finals!

If he is considered to be in the best 22 for any of the finals we play, so be it. But if not, no way he should play. He would not want to either if he hasn't earnt the spot.

Not on the basis of sentimentality alone. We all love Moons, and he has been a tremendous servant of the club, but finals is where the cream rises to the top and if the match committee think there's a better/fitter/more appropriate player for the job then that's the reality that Mooney has to live with. IMO he'll be rapt if Geelong pinch the flag this year, included in the 22 or not.

After tonight, the only chance he has of getting a game is if there's an injury.

Also after tonight, only a fool would suggest he'd offer more than Hawkins.

unfortunately as we have seen today an accident can happen. Would have loved to see Menzel further but allas his season is probably over.

it's pretty exciting but what we saw from Hawkins is what's to come. He's got so much upside and the more he really believes the more he'll begin to dominate games. Gotta remember that Travis Cloke didn't start dominating until a year ago either at age 23/24 and he's around the same size as he. I loved that goal in the goal square where he held his opponent off with strength and tapped the ball to his goal side to kick the sealing goal, was very...'should I say it:rolleyes:hmmmm.... well, it was Carey-esque:D'

No room for sentiment, and Moons is such a team man he wouldn't want it that way anyway. Given how well the talls played tonight I think it's unlikely he'll play again.

Tomahawk ended Mooney's career last night.

dunno man...I still think he'd make the perfect sub in the grand final (if we get there of course). Can you imagine we absolutely put on a master class performance and have a winning 9 goal lead and we bring Mooney onto the ground for the final quarter:thumbsu: the cheers and comradely from his teammates would be electric

Are you trying to film a reality show or win a premiership there?

Exactly. By the time the Pre-lim comes around it would be over a month without Mooney playing footy.

Career over. Albeit, a very good career.

He's finished. It happened when Hawkins was picked over him v the Pies.

He should be happy with the three premierships and all the great work he's done for the club. :thumbsu:

I have no problem with sentiment .. to a point.

Every year in this era players have missed out , it was not personal it was just business. Our business is winning.

At times like this one would love to have Dasher playing like Goodes , on 299 and still their best player ... but he isn't. Id love Cam to be at his rampaging best , being a rock solid rock , creting havoc and having backmen looking over their shoulder... but he isn't. Both can still play and could do their bit but other are in their spot and are probably doing better.

Cam and Dashers are two club legends , they are Premiership players and have served the club well but I'm sure they also know they never owned a position the side , they just leased it for a while. The club comes first and unless something unforeseen happens they have probably played their last game.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Because the best choice for a sub would be the one who would bring the most electric atmosphere, based on the fact that we will surely be up nine goals against whoever we play.

I love Mooney and I'd even back him to have one more monster performance in his career, should he be required. But he's not coming back in, unless Pods or Hawkins get injured.

Moons as a "perfect sub"? Never a good idea to post when you're over medicated.

Very good post Turbo, could not agree more. :thumbsu:

Strangely enough I watched 'The Godfather' last night too.

Superb post. Absolutely 100% correct.

We should actively want all of our older players to be seriously challenged to keep their spots, as that's the best thing for the team. The fact that Hawkins is starting to show real improvement is a great thing, far outweighing any sentimental concerns for Mooney.

The team has to come first. Not individuals with Enthusiasms.

remember the 07 granny bringing king in late for blake... do we hold mooney in the same regards...

milburn is easily in our best 22... i doubt he will play on next year but will more than beat his opponent if played this finals series.

Hes going to lack match fitness, and you have too much talent without bringing him back, its a shame, cos he deserves to have one last go, but why would they take a risk with an ageing player that is not quite up to speed with the others? I like Moonee, he needs to prove himself after the shamozzle in 08 he played.
