I know that it's only 10 games into the season but was wondering who people think is /are our most improved players.
Mine are Blake,N.Ablett,Kelly and Prismall.

I am thinking Wojcinski for sure , he has improved so much that he is one of the most important players in our team now.

others I think are Nathan , Blake , Egan & although he hadnt played seniors till this year I would have to say Varcoe has come of age

Nathan Ablett was very good first too games, has improved a lot from last year, but still very up and down.

Mooney i think, has improved the most, is more disciplined, and turned into a dominating key forward. The swap with Ottens and Mooney has improved cats structure.

So far 8 different players have been nominated,no wonder we're doing so well.I think the new fitness regime has a lot to do with it.

Egan and Blake for me. Egan can now take on the opposition's best forward gorilla while Blake visibly improves aggainst all opposition ruckmen week-in, week-out. Kelly I wouldn't say is most improved, perhaps more "most living up to potential and back to form", while about Mackie I'd say "doing very well".

Egan and Wojac. But I guess Blake is probably the most improved, only because last year he was absolutely hopeless. I'm finally starting to like the kid, I hope he doesn't let me down.

3- Blake
2- Nablett
1- Mackie

3. Blake-he has become a good link man.
2. N.Ablett-his mobility has become alot better than what it was and is now a solid target.
1. Wojcinski-low because I think most of us knew he had the potential to do what he's doing, but he has never really had the chance to play this way.

Blake for me, when King is back from injury Blake should be keeping him out of the side.

Second I'd have Varcoe. He has really stepped up to play at an AFL level and his pressure in the forward line is immense. Great to see our crumbing forward chasing down Saints players in their attacking half. :)

SJ gets my 3rd placed vote. He has matured as a player and a person from what we can see. He's accountable now on the field too which is a big improvement and looks like he really wants to be out there :D

Geez, pick half the team I think! There are some who have certainly stood out, though. Nathan, Blake and Woja are probably the three that stand out. SJ has improved but I think it is more attitude than anything else which has changed for him - his level of play has always been high, but wasn't always team-oriented.

Hopefully we will continue these blokes improve and I have a special eye on Tenace - he has improved the last few weeks and if he can continue to do so, he'll become a very important cog in our machine.

In response to the thread title, our most improved player is Mark Blake. He reads the game a lot better now, gets into the right positions to be creative during play, and his work at stoppages has improved a lot.

If this thread is to seek out why Geelong have improved, it's not because of individuals improving, but a more attacking and direct gameplan that is giving more opportunities to everyone, as well as our terriffic work at stoppages. Quite a few names being mentioned in this thread haven't really improved as far a skills go IMO.

Nathan Ablett still is not a great mark, the difference this season for him is that he is being used as a hit up player when we go foward where as last year he was leading to the same spots but not receiving the ball lace out like he has been this season.

Matthew Egan played some great footy last year, and IMO has been our second best tall defender for quite a while, not just the period this year while Harley has been out. He's a great contested mark since he came into the competition, and his kicking is a pleasure to watch, almost always hits one of our players on the chest (except for that backwards chip earlier this year that went out of bounds on the full, that was embarrassing but a rarity for him). I don't know why people are noticing him more this year, he's doing the same things that he has done in the past.

David Wojcinski is another who people are mentioning, but he was playing just as well as he is know before he injured himself. All he needed was a full preseason to get himself fit again and he was going to be a great player again, and if you take a fit Monica out of our side again we would be a different side and one probably similar to last year that was getting called slow and one paced.

Is there a player that has not significantly improved on last year?

Perhaps Enright who was fanstastic last year. Other than that the entire list has improved significantly.

I especially like the improvement in g ablett...

His completed transformation into hard running midfielder would be rewarded with all australian honours if it was picked right now.

A shining example to his team mates re the benefits of hard work!

Good post there.

Not much more I can really add!! Egan, Monica, etc, they have all improved from that awful season last year. The key is to back it up week after week, then we'll see how they can handle the pressure of finals. If of course, we make it. ;)

Blake, Wojcinski and Bartel would be my top 3.

Even though Bartel was great last year, he has now become elite. You just have to look at how much his Brownlow odds dropped. Massive improvement.

Hit it right on the head.

Blake is the most improved player by an absolute country mile. Went from being a guy who tried to contest the ruck and then just stood there (and which many here didn't rate) to being one of the best ruckman in the comp (statistically - still got a bit to work on) and starting to show some real confidence and general ability. He's now willing to attack the play, run hard (how about his chase on Rodan?) and, well, kick. Integral part of the team.

After him, Woja and Mackie have turned themselves from being fringe players to core ones and are one of the major factors in the revival. Kelly and SJ, who we knew had the theoretical talent but seemed to lack the work ethic, have dropped a few kilos and are looking good. Even established players like Corey and Ling have taken it to another level by not dicking around at stuff they weren't good at (defender/ball-winner) and concentrated at what they are capable of, with excellent results - and in Ling's case, his forward cameos are becoming more and more productive.

About the only player most are mentioning who I wouldn't is Egan - purely because I think he was that good last year, though I'm impressed by his second attack on the ball this year (he creamed Pav in this department in particular).
