I don't think you adjust to needs based approach necessarily any more than you would in 2nd round+ of ND.

There's talent there to be found in all the drafts and Cat B pathways. Savvy clubs find it, lower clubs don't.

If we assess the best 2 options as development players that's fine as long as we're making a well researched call.

You can look at it in a way that if sure up our back 6 then we're in a position to win some games over the back end of the year and that could do more for our development than a couple of long term projects.

Of course a big if there, we could draft 2 ready made players and they could turn out to be spuds.

Might want to tell Brady about those

And therein lies the answer.

I don't care what age. Just don't want linguini arms and someone who has to build a tank.

"Peel Thunder premiership defender Michael Sellwood is closing on an AFL opportunity with the Western Bulldogs.

The West Australian understands Sellwood had a medical with the Bulldogs earlier this week as they look to fill the spot left on their list by injured forward Cody Weightman.

Sellwood has been on the radar of several clubs, including Waalitj Marawar (West Coast), who hold the first pick in the May 28 draft....

McCarthy — who has nominated for an 18-month contract — solidified himself as a player to watch with 24 disposals for the Tigers against North Melbourne’s VFL side at the weekend.

Perth recruit Brandan Parfitt has been persistently linked to the Eagles but is yet to be interviewed by the club.

Interestingly, East Perth ruckman Scott Jones has been linked to several clubs including Brisbane despite turning 30 on Tuesday night.

Jones played six games for the Dockers before returning to the Royals where he has established himself as a premier ruckman in the WAFL."

Agreed. The issue is that we already have 5 blokes with zero games to their name and another 3-4 with under 3 games, and most of them aren't banging the door down to play any time soon. Most of them are "project players". Adding two more of that type to our list would make it even more unbalanced than it already is

Jackson Callow, first player to kick 100 goals in an AFL season since Aaron Edwards.

Then we can get Mutaz El Nour for the other end.

Sure. But it may be as simple as are these two better potential AFL prospects than Bergman and Kal.

Just draft the best talent, whoever they are.

We don't want another K Dawson over D'ambrosio all over again. Don't pick for need or immediate help over the best talent.

Assuming we use two picks and after spending 13 minutes looking at vids, I hope we go:

McCarthy
McCartin

Of course I also hope Aidan nominates us next year so we can also have:

McCartney

(Actually being serious)
My nephew went along to the Port Melb v Geel game Sat night and said McCartin was very quiet. Only one game however.

Western Australia’s under-18s had their first hit-out ahead of their AFL National U18 Championship opener against Vic Country next month, going down to a strong WAFL Under-21s outfit at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday.

West Perth midfielder and Jack Clarke medallist Kane Bevan produced a best-on-ground performance for the 21s to showcase his talents in front of recruiters less than a fortnight out from the AFL Mid-Season Draft.

Bevan, one of 11 players with senior experience for the 21s side, had 30-plus possessions and 10-plus clearances to go with two goals in a standout display.

Good size mid

Eagles locked on McCarthy

EAGLES FIRM FOR TALENTED TIGER

RICHMOND VFL prospect Tom McCarthy is widely expected to be taken as the No.1 pick in next Wednesday night's AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft, with West Coast now guaranteed to hold the first selection.

As revealed on AFL.com.au's trade and draft show Gettable last month, the 24-year-old McCarthy has long been viewed among AFL recruiters as the top prospect in this season's mid-year rookie pool.

The 187cm midfielder, who is also capable of playing across half-back, continued to impress at VFL level at the weekend to finish with 24 disposals and three clearances in Richmond's two-point loss to North Melbourne.

Subiaco's 20-year-old key forward Archer May is another likely to go early, with the 198cm goalkicker attracting interest from North Melbourne, Carlton and Collingwood among others.

Essendon has tracked 27-year-old Claremont tall Oliver Eastland as it searches for potential ruck depth, while 20-year-old North Adelaide ruck Alex Van Wyk is another tall prospect that clubs have watched.

North Adelaide forward Ewan Mackinlay also has fans, with Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs linked, while Carlton has been strongly paired with Norwood small forward Jacob Newton.

Gold Coast has been linked with high-flying forward Caleb Lewis after an exciting stint with Dingley in the Southern Football Netball League, while the Suns have also monitored Eastern Ranges defender Rod Ali.

Richmond VFL forward pair Massimo Raso and Sam Toner, and Peel Thunder midfielder Michael Sellwood are others that clubs have tracked closely through the start of the season. – Riley Beveridge

Wouldnt it be a bit weird for us to get May and Trembath GR? Unless we want to get Trembath playing in defence again, maybe?

While clubs are being cagey about their mid-season draft plans, one Tiger cub looks a certainty

By Peter Ryan and Michael Gleeson

May 21, 2025 — 5.30am

Mid-season draft prospect Tom McCarthy confirmed to recruiters he should be selected in next week’s mid-season rookie draft with an outstanding performance on Sunday for Richmond VFL in a tight loss to a North Melbourne team containing a dozen AFL players.

Although it remains to be seen whether West Coast will take him with their No.1 pick, a recruiter told Money Talks the former Southern league player, who arrived at the Tigers via Highett, was a readymade AFL player.
