Some of those will be passes, but that's no fun.
I still rather raso at pick 10

But the above would be a good outcome too

I have watched every bit of tape on Archie May available and I just can’t see why we would pick him. From the tape I’ve seen:

  • No genuine contested marks
  • Goals from fast break turnovers where there is heaps of space and defender has no hope
  • Solid at ground level but not elite
  • Awkward mover

^ this is literally a younger CCJ

Banch on the other hand has AFL traits:
  • Creativity with ball in hand
  • Composure
  • Pressure/Repeat efforts
  • Nice kick of the footy

We don’t have a Banch on our list - we do have a May. Don’t be fooled by the ‘North need more key position players’ narrative. You only draft players who you fundamentally believe can make it and in my opinion that is clearly Banch.

Watching a clip from the WAFL state game, Sellwood looks like a really promising defender. Used the ball well and is athletic. Would be an improvement on LMac/Tucker/Scott/Corr as a defender. Could most likely play on talls and smalls. Reminds me of Goater.
Sellwood is the only one I’d consider taking over May at pick 2

Which picks do the Roos have in the Mid-Season Rookie Draft?

North Melbourne will hold the second pick in the 2025 AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft

North Melbourne will hold the second pick in the 2025 AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft, which will be held on Wednesday, May 28 from 6.30pm AEST.

Due to the postponement of an Opening Round game, the AFL determined the draft order on a reverse win percentage basis. The order for clubs on the same win percentage was determined by the for/against percentage. The West Coast Eagles hold the first pick in this year’s AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft, which will be held remotely with clubs selecting their players online.

For clubs to participate in the AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft, they must have had an available list spot by 5pm on Tuesday May 27.

The 2025 AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft will be broadcast exclusively on AFL.com.au and the AFL Live Official App.

I read that earlier. What exactly does our media department get paid for? Half the content on our website is a cut and paste job from AFL articles.

How hard would it be to get a quote from Brady along the lines of "We have two picks and a group of players on our board that we would be happy to take if they are still there at our second pick."

He works in the same building as the media guys and instantly we would be producing our own media, drawing people to the NMFC website for actual content. Very frustrating.

May isn't a world beater, but lets also be fair in this discussion.

He's averaging 2.2 contest marks per game and 2.0 goals per game.

Maley doesn't average 2/2 at VFL level.

Jacob Van Rooyen and Charlie West are the only two players to play 3 or more games to average 2/2 this season out of the entire WAFL/SANFL/VFL, so 400-500 players?

And May is 20 years old....

He averages more contested marks per game and goals per game than:

Jack Whitlock, Matthew Jefferson, Jordan Croft, Kayle Gerreyn.

He averages more contested marks per game than Max Gruzewski at state level who has been utterly dominant down there.

Looks better than you suggest in the game featured below.

17 possessions, 11 marks, and 4 goals matched up on Zach Reid.

Players under 21 to be averaging 2+ goals per game at State League level this season.

Will McLachlan
Max Gruzewski
Jasper Scaife
Cooper Harvey
Harry Lemmey

Archer May*
Noah Howes
Corey Grocock

The end.

* The only u/21 WAFL player to average 2+ goals per game.

AFL Listed

Second tier stats can be very misleading. Who has he been playing on? Does he get the best defender?

The other guys may not have the same stats but they have shown some AFL level traits (speed, endurance, strength, kicking etc) to suggest they can rise above the magoos.

There are plenty of players who can dominate at that level but will never be AFL players (see: Sellers, Tyler)

Noah Howes was being discussed for the MSD last year, including by people on this board. I was wondering whether he is still playing well.

Tyler Sellers never averaged 2/2. In fact he's never averaged anywhere near 2 CM per game at VFL level. He was a lead up forward.

You can pick holes in any argument.

If it was so easy, why isn't there 40 more names on the list?

He's 1 of 3 u/21's in the country not AFL trained with that goal output.

He's the only non AFL listed player in the entire countries state league to average 2/2.

It's not a statistical outlier like "anybody" could dominate and do it...

He's also 20 years old and in his first year in the comp and shown rapid physical transformation since the NAB League 24 months ago, off his own bat.

Do I think he's the next Nick Larkey? No.

But the shitcanning is flat out weird.

Banch is absolutely no world beater either.

He's quick and can roost the ball, so could Taylor Garner, he can't find it like just about every elite state level player has that has translated to AFL football.

Konstanty averaged 13 touches, 4 tackles and 1.2 goals a game at VFL level last year
Banch is averaging 15 touches, 4 tackles, 1.0 goals per game.

You are getting a similar player, with similar speed, but 4" shorter and around 5kg's lighter.

I wont care if we pick him, as he has promise, but the discussion is way too one sided.

On pure output vs his peers, May shits all over him.

There's around 60 medium forwards doing what Banch is doing. They might not have his speed, power and ability with the ball. But that's also a negative against his footy IQ. He should be doing it easier with those physical advantages.
