Yesterday Ralph says we're keen on May, Clearly today says we're looking a Banch.

Who to believe?
Morris yesterday also said Archie May for us, dons and pies hoping he slides to their first pick

i still think there is a chance to get both with May first then banch

but it requires sellwood being available at dogs pick eg the mock draft order posted earlier

Noah Howes was being discussed for the MSD last year, including by people on this board. I was wondering whether he is still playing well.

He missed the 2nd half of last year with injury.

The lack of continuity in his game over the past 3 years is probably what's holding him back.

Tyler Sellers never averaged 2/2.

You can pick holes in any argument.

If it was so easy, why isn't there 40 more names on the list?

He's 1 of 3 u/21's in the country not AFL trained with that goal output.

He's the only non AFL listed player in the entire countries state league to average 2/2.

It's not a statistical outlier like "anybody" could dominate and do it...

He's also 20 years old and in his first year in the comp and shown rapid physical transformation since the NAB League 24 months ago, off his own bat.

Do I think he's the next Nick Larkey? No.

But the shitcanning is flat out weird.

Banch is absolutely no world beater either.

He's quick and can roost the ball, so could Taylor Garner, he can't find it like just about every elite state level player has that has translated to AFL football.

Konstanty averaged 13 touches, 4 tackles and 1.2 goals a game at VFL level last year
Banch is averaging 15 touches, 4 tackles, 1.0 goals per game.

You are getting a similar player, with similar speed, but 4" shorter and around 5kg's lighter.

I wont care if we pick him, as he has promise, but the discussion is way too one sided.

On pure output vs his peers, May shits all over him.

There's around 60 medium forwards doing what Banch is doing. They might not have his speed, power and ability with the ball. But that's also a negative against his footy IQ. He should be doing it easier with those physical advantages.

not sure why others are so keen on another konstanty clone

Yesterday Ralph says we're keen on May, Clearly today says we're looking a Banch.

Who to believe?

Ralph said the other clubs thought we might take May, his articles were primarily about the Pies getting him. He also said that the only contact we've had with May was our WA scout interviewing him.

May feels like this years trap. Hype outta no where with multiple articles coming out.

Doesn’t seem ready to play AFL straight away..

So we’re definitely going to pick him.

How exactly is it "out of nowhere"?

He's 20 years old.

He kicked 20 goals and averaged 1.7 CM per game in the VFL last year. The year prior he should have been in the NAB League as a 19 year old.

He finished in the top 25 goal kickers in the VFL last year, from half the season he hasn't emerged out of the pumpkin patch as a ploy by Collingwood.... In terms of averages, he was in the best 8 key forwards for goals per game in the VFL last year at 19....

He kicked more goals and took more contested marks than Finbarr in last years VFL, from around 6 less games. His stats across the board at WAFL level are better than Finbarr in every department at VFL level this year.

A player currently in our best 22, showing a lot of promise.....

On pure statistics, May is a better contested mark across the last 2 seasons than Finbarr....

He's simply just developed his body and gone to another level in admittedly a weaker league.

I feel that some posters expect us to find AFL A-grade talent in the MSD from players who have been mostly overlooked in all four rounds of last year's national draft, and in some cases, multiple years of national and mid-season drafts. Yes, there have been some genuine AFL B to B plus players come out of the mid-season draft, but not many relative to the total number of players drafted. I suspect Ned Long might turn out to be one of the best of them, and he slid to pick 19 last year.

It seems to me that a 20-year-old, 6'5" goal-kicking key forward is not a bad project player to take a punt on in the MSD.

Sellwood is the only one I’d consider taking over May at pick 2
I think a quality defender and good ball user in the back half is a more urgent need than another small forward given that we have Konstanty and Cooper and both are young. Cooper in particular is pretty much untried at AFL level. Sellwood is the one I would be going after.

Mr Wizard is on Team Mitch. Dom from FB as well. Just need giantroo and I'm hitching my wagon to the Banchee.

Dees were pretty desperate to get to pick 3. We had the leverage. I just don’t think Brady is a really slick operator. Is what it is, but it’s annoying.
Oh agree with that, he's not a good operator. But we did try.
We could've taken the Dees pick 6 and F1 deal and taken Curtin.
We would've had to get the GC pick 5 to get Caddy, because pick 20 (Goad pick), 22 or 23 wouldn't have been enough to get GWS to trade back in the order given they wanted to guarantee Gothard and to a lesser extent Leake.

Ha ha, I see the merits in both Banch and May (among others), any hesitance I have is in giving 18 month deals with a temporary bloat on our rookie list, better to keep our powder dry for draft/trade/free agency.

And we definitely tried for the pick Adelaide got from GC to draft Curtin but our back end F1 picks were too far for what GWS wanted (targeting Gothard and Leake). Crows were hoping for a double swoop to get Curtin and Goad.
Yep. Goad pick 20 is too far back for them to get Gothard and Leake. They wanted to guarantee them, otherwise they would have taken West Coast's F1 if Gothard was off the board.
I think we would have had to get the GC pick 5 to get Caddy and Curtin, with Dees pick 6 deal the other obviously.

Players under 21 to be averaging 2+ goals per game at State League level this season.

Will McLachlan (Bris)
Max Gruzewski (GWS)
Jasper Scaife (Haw)
Cooper Harvey (NM)
Harry Lemmey (Carl)

Archer May*
Noah Howes
Corey Grocock

The end.

* The only u/21 WAFL player to average 2+ goals per game.

AFL Listed
Wow Cooper Harvey. Why is he not getting a game?

My prediction is that if we pick anyone but May The Nostradamus will instantly dislike them and spam every thread that they should be delisted.

I'm not against taking May, given we need to replace Darling, CCJ and Teakle soon, but feel like the defensive end of the ground is an area we need to address with pick 2 with either McCarthy or Sellwood.
Larkey, Maley, Darling, Wawson, CCJ and Teakle is deeper than our defensive options imo.
But if they think May is the more likely AFL prospect and take him, so be it.
