By the way, the Vietnamese and most of the Chinese seem to be integrating ok.

The Vietnamese I've met who speak English are very nice people. No idea about those who don't. Chinese are a mixture and difficult to read. Some possess an air of quiet arrogance/superiority.

Again, it's a case of timelines. The more recent the arrivals, the more resistant they are to integration. IMO.

Just wait until the money dries up like it has in most of Europe and America, and then you'll see just how 'friendly' and 'co-operative' all these non-assimilating immigrants really are.
I think you will find if the money dries up, the whites will turn on the immigrants well before the imigrants turn on the whites. Hell, plenty of you are turning on them while times are good.

Once again the loopy left "out" themselves to the rest of the board. A couple of turns on the old organ handle and the monkeys dance and screech to the tune. Multiculturalism is a government policy. Being able to eat a kebab and walk past people in turbans is not "multiculturalism". Those things are the result of normal immigration, which I don't think anyone on here is against. Multiculturalism is a government policy which encourages and funds immigrant groups to continue living the same life as they were in their country of origin here in Australia (as closely as possible). It also preaches that all cultures are of equal value and relevance. This is not true. As someone has already mentioned, Australia is a liberal democratic society. Some of the people coming to live here come from cultures which do not share the ideals that we do as part of a liberal democracy. For example - democracy, individual rights for all, secularism, the rule of law etc, etc, etc. "Multiculturalism" reinforces to these particular people that their views are valid and freely encouraged as part of their "culture". What's more, taxpayer money gets thrown at them to support reinforcing this "culture". This is bad. Multiculturalism has been a spectacular failure worldwide, almost as big a disaster as Marxism was. If people want examples (you've got to be kidding, right?) look at Britain, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden......wait......how about people give examples of where multiculturalism has succeeded? Much shorter list. Possibly consisting of zero. Personally, I'm all for immigration as diversity can bring strength, but everyone has to be pulling in the same direction. Australia has previously had policies of integration and assimilation, which account for the success of the vast majority of our immigrants. So you can still eat your kebab, ring up ABC talkback and tell Pravda how wonderful your ethnic neighbours are because that's normal immigration. With or without the policy of "multiculturalism". So please shut up about supporting "multiculturalism" because you like to eat kebabs.

Exactly!!!!

It's incredibly sad most people in Australia fail to understand this simple concept.

The only place it DOES work is New York. But they usually think of themselves as New Yorkers and have an identity to associate with. This does not seem to happen in Australia.

Well we are all immigrants apart from the indigenous so we are celebrating everyone but indigenous round. that sounds a bit racist

Racist card! Haha

Every country on the planet is thanks to some sort of immigration. Aborigines included.

I think you need to look up the difference between immigration and multiculturalism. Shock horror they're both different words.

compared to the NRL its an all white game.

so they have to highlight that there are differences high percentage of players of white skin in the white population of players.(irish, croat, greek, itallian, etc, etc)

yes there is a large indigenous population that play, and one or two papuans, an african and a couple of white irish. but look at an NRL team, and you see the difference the codes demographics are, its obvious, perhaps embarrasingly so for AFL?.

im not suggesting any racism at all. the AFL are doing their best to make AFL more popular with pacific island players. even buying them to play and increase interest.

but it is 'spot the non white fella' in AFL. no doubt about it.watch melbourne and bris today.

white kids playing will only increase as many white parents in QLD AND NSW are moving from RL to AFL as they see the islander kids as too big for their kids, and less contact in AFL.

God, was Dennis cometti given some sort of quota on how many times he must mention "multicultural" ? cringe worthy stuff. Afl is largely a white mans game there's guilt or shame in admitting such

It sounds like the problem is that not enough non-white people are playing football.
However I prefer to think that there is not enough white guys playing NRL.

The good thing about football is that the team cn be split, such that the big guys are in the forward line, and the skinne(more agile) ones are in the midfield.

The AFL's work at the grass roots means that we are winning the hearts and minds of all demographics. That is a much more effective way of growing the game than a BS multicultural round.

Ps Our Ukranian Australian had a ripper 100th game yesterday.

No, it is. Totally.

It might be a doctrine, that's not mutually exclusive to also being the Australian immigration policy. Google Al "Scumbag" Grassby.

**** me, I missed this shining nugget in your steaming pile of excreta.

You're an old hat at the hate game, aintcha?

Media awareness plays a large part in this though. The Terrorgraph is doing a great job in stirring up footyphobia in the same they stirred up Islamophobia. We need positive reinforcement as well.
Could we have some Blacktown Football Riots in the same way as the Cronulla Riots???

"Go back to where you came from you gayfl loving .......!!!!!"

All the short stumpy league supporters with beer bellys would simply target anyone tall!!

The reason people in this country get annoyed at prospects like "multi cultural" round is because the common belief is that most people from ethnic background appear to not embrace Australia as home. I seen a sign on a truck whilst on holidays in New York recently that just summed it up for me.

"Born Italian, Die American"

In my wildest dreams I could not imagine seeing something like that based on Australia here. Its normally **** Australia, go -insert other country here- !!

How about 'F*** Off, We're Full' stickers then?

Also, only 1 post since 2006?

I'd be more worried about 3454 posts since June 2011...

Do you remember what daylight looks like?

Only 1 post since 2006 makes the point less valid does it?

That's 2 now.

It's unrelated to my first sentence. I was just curious as to how your account has been around for 6 years with no posts.

Just to rest your curious mind, I hadn't logged in for a while, around a year, and today was the first time I did login. For some reason my previous posts (not many, probably around 100 or so) dont seem to show up in posts.

I still would be more worried that you average 10 posts a day... do you have a life?

So what? How long does it take to post 10 posts?

You seem awfully defensive. Maybe it's because I didn't make it clearer in the first reply that my curiosity about your account was unrelated to my reply to the substance of your post. Sorry.

Big Footy threads on race are the lowest form of punditry ever, this ones no different. Gotta love some white middle class outrage, MTR had a market here after all.

I would hate to go the way of the US. Patriotism is pride in where you live and is a wonderful sentiment, nationalism is the belief that you country is better than the rest and is not so wonderful. America is generally the latter and that's not a good thing.

This one parent doesn't happen to be white? Much easier to blend in and feel like you belong when you look like a "typical" Australian.
