Surely Pies fans must concede that based on current form, Marc Murphy has justified his no.1 pick rating ahead of Dale Thomas.
He has become a consistent, damaging midfielder who is improving each week, Thomas seems to be a one trick pony, spectacular or nothing.
Maybe Thomas should be played more through the middle, as being a specialist fwd flanker is a difficult position to play.

I find it amusing that he made Sheehans top 50, and was picked in the Vic squad ahead of Murphy,(Sheeds hates the blues) yet he has been struggling all season. Murphy would be leading the Blues b&f.

Thomas is out of form, but has been brilliant last year.

But he is still one of the most spectacular players in the AFL !

I'd take both for St Kilda...
 
In current form, Thomas shouldn't be a top 10 pick. But we all know he's far better than this. Not sure whether it's all gone to his head, but it seems that way.

Anyway, at this stage... I'd say Pendlebury and Murphy could both be justified number 1 picks.
 
Thomas was rated by many at 12-13 in his draft. Now we are seeing why. Thomas is the kind of player who wants to be the mercurial match-winning type, but he just doesn't have the football talent to execute his desires. It's kinda sad. Thomas is becoming the Tambling of the famous Tambling V Franklin polls. :)

lol. Pendlebury is not even remotely close to being top 1 quality, 5-6 quality maybe in that draft. Pendlebury is turning into a Stanton Mk2 i.e a very outside type, not especially fast, but even softer than Stanton. Pendlebury's handbreaks are now trademark. :)

That's a negative mate.

Pendlebury hits far more targets than Murphy. As do several others. And besides, I like Murphy, I rate him... his disposal isn't too bad but it definately needs work. I just think Parrot is hilarious... what a joker.
 
Pendleburys disposal is one of the best at Collingwood and to back that up check his disposal effeciancy. At a guess im sure it would be higher than Murphys.

Both pick 1 material but despite both being midfielders, they're different midfielders.

Pendlebury is a bit of a Stanton Mk2 type. Got caught up in the rampant pro-Collingwood media overhype. The guy ain't that fast, skills are OK, has an almost absent attack on the ball. Basically a useful player when the team is up an running, and he can get some soft outside the pack receives, but not the sort of player you need when the pressure is on. Worthy of a 5 to 7 pick in 2005, or a 17-22 pick in 2006, or 5 to 6 in 2007. Saying he's #1 pick quality is a complete joke - not even remotely close. :)

Yes, yes Parrot. We all know what to expect from you.

How about this? Murphy is a bit of a Shane Obree Mk2 type. Got caught up in the rampant pro-Carlton youth media overhype. The guy is dead slow, skills are terrible, has an OK attack on the ball. Basically a useful player when the team is up and running and has 70 midfielders ahead of him for the tag. Worthy of a 5 to 7 pick in 2005, or a 17-22 pick in 2006, or 5 to 6 in 2007. Saying he's #1 pick quality is a complete joke - not even remotely close. :)

Look.. look! I just stated some things as if they are fact, and somehow that makes me right!! Woooohooooo! [A common theme around this wasteland].

But in all seriousness... both guys are very impressive. Their stats are almost identical this year... but Murphy has kicked a few more goals and has a few more marks. Pendlebury has more contested possessions, 1%ers and tackles. Strange... the stats where Pendles leads the way would suggest he is the player who is harder at it. :)

No. But he probably should be. Haha. Unlike you, I am aware of the talent in other teams, therefore I acknowledge Murphy is a good player. Better than Obree... ;)

...Furthermore, Pendlebury had 65 hard ball gets in 2007, at almost 3 per game, which was third at our club. I'd be interested to see the stats for Murphy.

Nice bit of work by Pendlebury there where he loses Judd and watches Murphy and Judd run away from him.

That play is nearly identical to Pendlebury losing Goodwin in round 22 last year.

Goodwin ran on and kicked the match winner.

But Pendlebury excels at one per centers. :)
