Murphy

Too bad Simpson is on the wrong side of 30. He and Judd can't give much more than what they do. As for some of the other 'stars'..well...no need to say anymore.

Murphy is still a good player. He just has little to no support, and it doesn't help that he's not physically big. A few years ago he won the AFLCA award, so we know he can be up there. The Hodge and Dangerfield knocks have made him a different player. Why isn't Gibbs helping him out? Oh that's right, he's prancing around with his marketing executive style ponytail.

The outrage over Gibbs hair is ridiculous. Has no impact on his football. He's just playing shithouse, lazy footy right now.

Seems to be a lot of men getting offended by it. o_O

Haha, it's really more a venting of frustration. I don't actually believe it's his hairdo causing the issue, it'd be silly to suggest so!

I believe the technical term is a "top-knot". :(

Oh mate birds love the top knot, was talking to a few tonight and they was banging on about top knots and beards. Wanted to cut the blokes knot off next to me the prick.

I prefer Murphs over Gibbs, IMO feel that he is a better user with the footy and that he can actually play on an opponent, whereas Gibbs plays without accountability and still has no real influence.

Anywho..

Why is everyone defending Murphy by saying that he has no support?

F***ing Bontempelli is out there dominating in his second year- with a team full of kids as his "support".
Because he doesn't?

No one shepards for him, backs him up, runs for him, remonstrates with his tagger or players who physically bump into him... the Bulldog players do it for Bontempelli. Even kids who are willing to work together can still give great support. Where is Murphy's support?

Murphy also started on fire in his first year, ironically he had more support then! But he wasn't tagged too heavily either.

There is something really wrong with Carlton and frankly it pisses me off that Murphy is the scapegoat.

No matter how bad things were when Mick turned up he has destroyed the place. I am sure he has tried his best but he clearly hasn't got what it takes anymore and is ruining this club.

He has to go and NOW. If there are any leaders on the Carlton board they must remove him this week, no if's not but's.

By the way the Murphy problem will be fixed only by a new coach. You can't be such a small player and captain a club. He is actually a gun player but should not be the captain.

Michael Clarke / Mitchell Johnson syndrome.

Score runs for fun or rip through English top orders on the way to a 5-0 Ashes series and you'll be universally loved.

Don't perform and people will go straight to the stupid haircuts, tattoos, distracting slapper girlfriends etc.

I'm sure I'm not the only WC fan who would like to see Chris Masten and Sharrod Wellingham with short back and sides. And getting a kick.

Murphy is a good player on a shit team. Never agreed with the soft tag. He is in a bit of a nowhere situation, as he is in the prime of his career and is leading a team with a list that was supposed to be competing yet is getting belted by halfway teams like rich, wc and Collingwood. Needs to move on and would any Carlton fan blame him if he jumps ship?

Compare their clearance, tackle and 1%er numbers this year. Gibbs is doing his share, he's just not using the ball well when he has it.

I sort of see what you are saying as you want a captain who has a presence and imposes himself on the game, but good leaders can be found amongst short people, such as the likes of Peter Bell, Sam Mitchell, Paul Kelly, etc.. The problem with Murphy is he just meek/soft/quiet, same problem with Cotchin.

Carlton is really devoid of captaincy material. Should have just left it with Judd until he retires. Note sure where this idea came from where many (most?) clubs pass the baton on to someone else while the ex-captain finishes their career.

Both Murphy and Gibbs are highly overrated. Neither are match winners.

Gibbs CAN be a match winner.

It's the piss weak performances for the remaining 18 games in the season that he's terrible.

If Murphy is a 'cream player' then what is he really worth at the trade table?
Plenty to the right team - he would kill it at any of last year's top 7 and maybe Adelaide/Collingwood/Footscray/GWS too. All teams with quality ball winners who can feed an excellent outside finisher like Murphy. The problem is none of them will have the picks to get him.

You obviously missed the game.
It's one thing to put it on a player in the heat of the battle, even wrongly and for purely partisan reasons. It's common and accepted.

His game tonight was insipid, verging on disinterested.

Carlton at the moment are like a dog, already hit by one car and about to wander into the path of another.
The overwhelming reaction is to put it out of it's misery before the impact.....
When a side makes you feel that sort of sympathy you know there are real problems.
There were spectators in the crowd who would have tried harder and had more pride in the Carlton jumper than Murphy.
It's not good for the game.

Watched, and enjoyed, every minute of the game and my point still stands.

Why would anyone feel sorry for him? In the big scheme of things he is living a charmed life, like most AFL players.

Maybe you can feel sorry for anything Carlton related but i don't and the joy their supporters have felt at our issues lately has only hardened my hatred of that club.

He was a poor choice for captain and shows virtually zero leadership, at least from what is viewable from outside of the club.

With Judd, who was also a very poor captain from the outside, they had a player that led by example in his play, but with Murphy they don't even get that.

Long may their misery reign.

Cotchin is far worse as a captain
Cotchin isn't a great captain either, but at least he's taken his side to the finals twice in a row.

I just don't understand what Murphy does.

Should always have been Simpson, we don't even need hindsight to have known that.

The Murph effect

I think we should rename the Main Board, 'Carlton'

all I see is just hate speeches directed at CFC, quite pathetic really but just my opinion. Murphy got BOG week before, leading possession getter for Blues last night, unsure why copping so much for doing his best leading by example. I'm not defending the teams performance, was quite shocked but just have to pick yourself up and get ready for the next week. Going to be tough period but all teams go through it

Look he's obviously not a natural leader/captain type. Probably a great guy to have in the leadership group, but not your main man.

I think in future we have some very promising options as captain such as Cripps and Docherty, but for now, I don't know what the answer is.

I was talking about your club taking it over, as per your complaint about the Carlton hate on the MB.

Well check it out closely, nearly every thread is aimed at CFC, not to mention one closed last night by mods. I don't take offense I'm just making the observation, and voicing my opinion
