as many of us are aware, Smasha is becoming increasingly disgruntled with the music scene today. Therefore it is now the mission of this board to go out and show Smasha it isn't all bad.

what Smasha likes:
Druming
Genesis
Jazz, Progrock and I'll assume classical music as well.
time signatures that are not 4/4

what Smasha dislikes:
not drumming
4/4 time signatures
drum machines

My first suggestion - Boredoms

Can't be anything that was recorded in the last 30 years because it needs to have shitty 70's style production on the drum parts for him to like it.

Or you could say it needs to be music made by people who knew how to compose quality music because they were exposed to classical music, jazz, the beatles and blues and 80s american crap was still another 10 years away

A lone man in his garage, with a single drum set, thrashing the shit out of it for 3 hours whilst screaming 'guitarists suck'.

I reckon he would like this band.

They had about 3 or 4 drummers and no guitarists.
It must have been really awkward when the whole band turned up for the video shoot wearing the same dress.

I was listening to this
and was gonna put it in the guitar thread but this thread caught my eye.

Just thought I don't really hate quality guitar work.

This bring back memories of school excursions in the bus with this playing through the radio.

If you saw my cd collection, you would be quite shocked.

Ignore my rants.

I do them when I get depressed.

I'm not really that shallow honest.

i love all music.

If you saw my cds you would be shocked indeed at the different genres I'm into.

Like EVERYTHING.

When I get depressed I blame guitarists lol.

Maybe a history of working with some that had egos and I've stereotyped them all in the same box which I shouldn't.

LOVE THAT CAT DENNIS CHAMBERS.:thumbsu:

Saw him do a clinic at The Grainstore Tavern yonks ago

Grooves like a record.

honestly have no idea but these were the first things that came to mind.

Omit great clips.

Drums sound great on their own when you hear the tones ring out naturally.

No FX.

80s they put awful FX on the drums to make em sound dated and cheesey.

I'd love that bloke Albini to record drums because he loved the organic tone and records to tape because of it's musical compression.

Have you noticed today though, that drummers are unrecognisable.

They all pretty much have the same sound.

Back in my day,you could tell if it was Bonham or Copeland or Cobham playing by their sound as well as their playing

Today I couldn't pick one from the other.

The art has gone and that is the engineers fault as well.

The age of drummers recording and then engineers replacing the drummers soul with samples and then putting every beat in time so it sounds like a robot playing.

The art has gone.

Big Pig had one good hit.

Nah they had a few pretty big hits.

This was a massive hit for them, I think it may have even made it to no.1 on the Aussie charts.

Jesus, where did you pull that one from.
Loved UK for ths short time they were together. John Wetton & Bill Bruford were part of the make up, if I recall.

Not sure if this is a pisstake thread, but there are a few current prog artists that I follow.
I personally find Italian Prog just a little too cheesy.

Porcupine Tree have been a quality act for 15 years now.
Just a warning with these guys: If you've had a bad childhood, you have to watch the lyrics.
