I was sitting in the members stand and things were relatively tame until we started getting real close. Some spitball port fans started having a go at me - (guess it was the scarf and hat) and used the Victorian umpires complaint. claimed all three were from Vic (still not sure if that was so).
When i suggested that it was ports inability to play wet weather footy and the dumb use of tredrea during the second and third quarters i copped 15 good minutes of abuse from about 20 or so people. Now i was at the game by myself and when one port supporter (actually it was his wife) actually defended what i was saying to these idiots they turned on her. When one guy abused her, her husband got up and gestured to the guy to say that again. the bloke did and i thought it would be on for one and all. The husband told his wife to change seats with him so she was next - bar one - to me and therefore she was between me and him. Things quitened down for a while until Lids got the free and i agreed with the decision pointing the replay out on the screen. the fool in front of me stood and turned around and told me to shut up - I then stood up. Some of you might know that i am 6 feet 5 and whilst not doing anything else other than standing in his face, his mate told him to sit and watch the game.
Well they got all their jolly's in the last quarter and still blamed me for the umpiring. You know the funny thing was that at the end of the game the reaction to the umps was the most vocal i have ever heard - they paid out something shocking BUT by the time Port was coming off the ground all around me had left and literally only 5 or 10 people where there had been about 200 actually cheered and clapped their team off.
This is what i found sad about these people and their life.
After the after match (who else was there?) i got back to the my room watched the last half on fox footy( really just to see the umpiring again) and still cannot believe the one eyed , no blindness of those around me.
The good news is that after this i went to their poor excuse for a casino and left with an extra 300 nicely paying for the weekend and a little left over.
21.5 hours in Adelaide just reinforced some stereotypes that are commonly held.
Interestingly i flew over on the same flight as, now let me get this right "nellie" (the us rapper in Australia at the moment) is that his name? those of you under 25 can tell me. And was on the flight back with the players.
An eventful 24 hours.
