Saddington and McLaren out of 28 man squad versus Hawthorn replaced by Blackwell and Wiggins. :)

I can't see Griggy or Wiggo getting a run. If Blackers comes in he would replace Jacko, one would think. If JK is risked then he would probably replace Bower, but I would rather it was Whitnall who was rested. Tough, but ain't it great that we seem to have some depth now. :D

If there is a change it will be Kennedy in for possibly Bower.
If there is another change it will be Grigg in for Jackson.

They would be the 2 changes I would be looking at. Would like to see Hartlett have a run in the backline at some stage.

As much as I liked Grigg's game last weekend I can see Blackers being first cab off the rank for a few reasons;

(1) He was equally as impressive as Grigg last weekend
(2) Has earnt his dues and has obviously has more seniors experience (important for a GF game too, albeit the NAB)
(3) IIRC he played well against the Lions last year in Brisbane
(4) He will work his guts out and get to as many contests as possible and will extract the ball from quite a few.
(5) Grigg still needs to develop a more defensive side to his game and would hate to see this exposed in a GF.

But if he gets 20 touches may do him a world of good. The experience will be invaluable. Surely it cant be that bad with his accountability. I think our side has too many players like Blackwell that are a bit ahead of him at the moment.

Too many like him - Bentick - Carrazzo not with the best pace but very good in and unders

Agree with your last comment Schmurf...actually after posting that I was thinking to myself I wouldn't be surprised if Chief got a run, for his experience and hardness. He also showed great leadership in the reserves last weekend.

I would of said Carrazzo is a pace above these guys... his skills been the major let down

Totally agree but he is more valuable to us at the moment than Blackwell. Carrazzo can go forward and kick a goal or two. Therefore Carrazzo is better on two or 3 fronts, wins the ball plenty of times and can either go forward and kick goals or play as a small defender. kicking skills as you mentioned is not as superior as Blackwell.

Saddington and McLaren have been dropped.

Grigg, Hartlett, Bower and Jackson will miss out from the above squad. Hartlett only misses out due to the inclusion of another tall - Kennedy.

B: Russell O'hAilipin Thornton

HB: Walker Waite Gibbs

C: Scotland Stevens Simpson

HF: Houlihan Kennedy Fisher

F: Wiggins Fevola Betts

R: Ackland Murphy Bentick

Int: Whitnall Carrazzo Cloke Koutoufides Lappin Blackwell

Why drop the kid (Hartlett) when he has played his first game for a while and played pretty well at that. Certainly wasnt our worst. And to make 3 changes to out team just might unsettle them a little. I would hold off on Wiggins, and Blackwell and bring in Kennedy for say a Bower and possbly for the experience bring in Grigg.

Ive pretty much had it with picking a side. Positions mean sweet F all these days. There is only a few traditional position nowadays, HFF & HBF are now up on the wing, Pockets are now on the BF/FFlank etc. Its pointless. When has Russell started in the BP??? Houlihan has played mostly in the backline and on the ball, Carrazzo has started in everygame. not having a go at you 1/12 just that we never know whats going to happen.

Which tall do you drop to accomodate for Kennedy? Must be somone likely to play forward....Waite? Koutoufides? Hartlett? Whitnall? Also keep in mind the run of the Lions - the mediumsized running players have really hurt the opposition thus far.

Bower out of the side, shift Hartlett to defense where he's played in the VFL and Kennedy up forward.

Why unsettle the backline for? Keep it as it is. Yes change Bower with Kennedy and perhaps bring in either Grigg or Blackwell for Jackson. But thats it.

Both Bower and Hartlett spent time in defense last week, so keeping Hartlett in defense this week instead of moving him forward wouldn't really be unsettling the defense.

Watched the hawthorn game again last night...

Hawthorn would run, hand pass drive deep into attack with class, skills and pace they were, exceedingly impressive. In response Carlton would just go BANG ! With absolute authority, with an air of "WTF you gonna do about THAT !".

I have little doubt that opposition coaches who have played the blues are now thinking, gezuz !

Kennedy, I did not notice the first time around, second time, he is massively important. He was playing almost out of the back half at times.

Ackland is really important.

Gibbs, is better than people realise. He is underated.

ALSO and very important, the best way we can contain Brown is at the other end of the oval. We need to match his goals.

exactly audas - but we need more goal scorers.

We'll lose this game because we will rely on Fev.

If we find and use alternative options to goal, we will win, however if we continue to look to Fev like we have the past 3 games, we will get hammered, and rightly so.

Take another look at the Hawthorn game,,,.....its definitely not about Fev.

Im always bagning on about our poor forward stocks, however, that is more about winning the flag. We have cloke, ackland, kennedy, gibbs, lance, fish and fev...we need some one like edwards to take the next step and ill give as a chance to play anyone and win, we have the ascendancy, but without edwards, we can match it with anyone.

Do Whitnall, Kennedy, Fisher, Betts, Stevens, Ackland, Murphy, Houlihan and a few others not play for Carlton.

FFS AWG, of course we are going to look for Fev most of the time, but that is because he is such a good footballer. You don't kick 80 odd goals in one season in the bottom team if you are not a good player.

Perhaps we do look for him a bit too often, but alot of our problems are because when he has a few players around him, there is very rarely anyone at his feet, and this is where guys like Betts, Murphy and the like need to improve.

Any need to swear at me just because my view is not in praise of us always looking for fev??

No need to swear at me.

I'm just saying our club needs to work on the structure of our forward line.

And it's true, we will lose the game if all we do is go to Fev.

Dont appreciate you swearing at me just because my view differs to yours. :thumbsd:

In the game against Hawthorn, Fev only kicked 2 goals because the Hawks' defence triple teamed him. This allowed Ackland to drift down & kick a couple of goals, while Fish & JK kicked one each. Carrots, Murphy (supergoal) & Betts also contributed, giving us 7 individual goalkickers out of a score of 10 goals. If the Lions become too focussed on Fev, we could see a similar spread of goals, with players like Cloke, Whitnall, Simpson, Hoops etc capable of finding the big sticks (not the one with the mullet) as well.
