Good bloke
Just noticed a post on the main board stating #23 is this weeks rising star.

Congrats to Nath, I thought he probably would get it.

Well done Nathan.

Not even the much hyped Buddy Franklin has managed 4 goals in a game, so it's a fair achievement for a second gamer who only 12 months ago was playing junior country footy.

The kid is the best lead we've had since his father. You just cannot teach someone how to lead, where to lead, and when to lead. You either have it or you don't.

The things that can be taught will come to him, but as i've said all along, the raw talent is there in spades.

What a fantastic effort for a kid with such huge shoes to fill and the pressure that the footy world has unfairly placed on his shoulders.

Could he have handled it any better?

Nathan, well done. Special effort. Look forward to many more.

The Gaz and Nath show has officially been launched.

Is the rising star required to do media interviews? I wonder how he would handle that.

Did you watch him leading on Sat when they didnt kick it to him, even those were good. He presented even when he didnt get it which i like. Unrewarded running. When he was given space in the forward line he just knew where to go.

I don't know, but the boy is a joy to speak too.

Like his brother he is so genuine, so softly spoken, so gentle and so well spoken. It's amazing that they've grown into such quality people given the circus they grew up in.

Their mother must be a remarkable woman.

yeah I was just thinking about exactly the same thing. usually they are required to do at least one interview, one where a senior player at the club interviews them as part of a seagment on the sunday footy show.

somehow though I'd be surprised if he was to do one.

It almost made me cry because it was so much like his dad.

He just has that inate football sense that you can't teach, and like his dad he needs the big stage to show his best (i never saw Nathan lead like that in the VFL).

I cannot wait until he gets a solid fitness base that only a few AFL pre-seasons can bring, along with an education from Bomber and Kenny about the small things that he was never taught at Modewarre.

People say he's slow, but he's anything from it. He just doesn't have the tank or the fitness to show his true speed. When he loses some of the puppy fat, gets cut and develops some stamina he'll be faster than 99% of key forwards.

The scope with this kid is enormous.

The only thing he would have learnt at Modewarre was how to kick up hill. Shocking place that.

I dont think Modewarre would have taught a kid with this much talent a thing. All natural talent.

I cannot wait until next year. A full pre-season will do him wonders.. Cant wait. Will be purchasing a Social Club membership again for sure!

Media paid heaps for rehashing the obvious. Your observations make a lot more sense than most I have read(probably because I agree) as you say his well timed leads were quite quick but very well time for Gary. When Kelly and a couple of others get the drift watch out. He is not slow, he's a burst type player, the first 20/30M will be a weapon for him, add muscle to the frame and he will be very hard to push off the ball. Why everyone focus on perceived lack of midfield speed is beyond me, after all one doesn’t hitch a trailer to the Ferrari to take rubbish to the tip. He is a purpose built, power forward in the waiting , as such he must carry speed over 40-50 Metres and this kids natural ability is going to give a 20Metre jump on most defenders. Later on as grows into his body he may become more stay at home because while his old man was strong, Nathan is going to be STRONG. The number 23 might end up being quite appropriate

Ah, so ye is a social club member also? :D

Great game, was thinking he'd be up there this week, didn't see enough of any other games to see if he had competition though.

It's just so good to see that extra option up forward and we seemed to have some kind of forward structure where either Kingsley or Nathan can break off and leave space for a 1 on 1 contest (I'd back Nathan 1 on 1, but it's bloody handy to have both up there). Would be nice once we get Ottens back in there.

Well done to him, I think it may have been a good thing that he was playing due to injuries rather than playing due to great performances in the VFL.

This is the exciting thing. It's all just natural ability at the moment. Once he gets a few good pre-seasons under his belt it's scary how good he could become.

He was beating Hunter and Glass on the lead, so he can't be that slow, both of those guys are very quick for their size. The only way Hunter could get near him was when he wrapped his arms around him and pulled him back.

funny you should say that because im actually nathan's player sponsor and had the chance to go to a function with him at the club. He was as shy as anything but he was one of the nicest guys you will ever meet, was well mannered and on his first official function was extremely inviting and kept up conversation with me and answered any questions i asked without hesitation. in the end i was one of the last to leave and whilst other players had gone home he was showing me the new gym and rooms etc.

Well done for getting a nomination, but dont forget he has only play one good game of football since he has been at geelong. Of the VFL games i have seen this year he has been very very ordinary in each. He is very over-estimated IMO

Nathan's performances and all this Ablett talk recently has got me so freakin excited for the future... somehow I think once the season is over, it will be a very very long and impatient off-season.

Wrong

Of the VFL games i have seen this year he has been very very ordinary in each.

Do you mind telling us how many games you've seen ?

He is very over-estimated IMO

So far he's done more than anyone expected he would.

I've seen 5 games, and to say he's done more than anyone expected is a stupid comment unless the people at geelong had incredibly low expectations of him to start the year. What has he done to warrant all the hype about him????? besides have a famous surname??? i his last name was smith he wouldnt be anywhere near any AFL clubs list.

His name might've got him in the door, but a name doesn't get you four goals in the first half against the flag favourite. Talent does.

if his name was Smith he wouldnt be the reluctant recruit and wouldve gone through the Juniors like all the other draftees. Possibly coming out looking a darn sight better for it.

If his name was Smith he wouldn't have got all the media attention which drove him away from the Falcons and then any sort of senior football.
