Just watched the injury report video and there was no mention of a setback. Said there were "no new injuries" and that Freeman was "7 or 8, may be more, may be less" and that it's dependent on his training.

Hard to say what that means.

It probably meant the club is taking a "wait and see' approach like they've done all alone.
Saints have spent a year getting him right, a year building in VFL, he's had a good preseason and now he's had a minor op to remove some scar tissue like many others do. All I can see is a continual upward trend with minor hiccups along the way, which one would expect as part of a long term rehab. Cause for concern: 1.5/10, effect on playing list: 0/10, justification for apocalyptic predictions: 1,000,000%

I still remember the excitement Round 3 2016 at 3 qtr time, smashing Collingwood and checking my Facebook to see Nathan Freeman had amassed 46 touches in 3 quarters of VFL footy in his first game back.

Such a shame for the young fella, looked an incredible talent in his juniors and I’m glad the club took the risk, as risks need to be taken in this game.

What are people’s thoughts about Nathan’s future? Super Unlikely now he’ll play AFL this year, does the club cut its loses after this year or rookie list him for a season for a fourth crack?

In 5-6 weeks he can start playing in the VFL. He has the rest of the season to either earn a debute or start showing that he’s a class above vfl Level. Either of those and he at least gets a rookie spot next year.

If he comes back and never gets going, it’ll probably be the end.

Footy clubs injury estimates are as reliable as real estate price estimates. If they say 2 weeks it usually means 8 weeks, if they say 8 weeks it's probably a double leg amputation. It's not too often they say more or less and it's less.

Freezer is a distant relative and I wanted him to make it more than anything, just one game to say I had a relative play for the Saints is all I wanted. I never had a good feeling about it from the start though...perhaps not wanting to jinx it but I don't think he'll make it. I don't know him, so it's not from any knowledge of his condition. He's had shit luck with his body and he must be getting pretty depressed by his lack of momentum, I wouldn't be surprised if he moves on from footy if he hasn't played this year.

If he doesn't play this yr it's hard to say just how much ' top level' talent he actually has?
I mean by then he will be someone who was a highly touted TAC cup player 4 yrs ago:eek:

I hope to god for his sake he can get to debut this yr. Think he'd be delisted if he doesn't.
Must be tuff mentally for the poor bloke.
he still has had good performnces in the VFL to show he has the talent just the body isnt working for him ... that must be the worst feeling knowing no matter how hard you work and how much you put in the body just wont give you break

If Nathan is out of contract this year you would think that he is starting to get desperate about playing some actual football, perhaps even to the extent where he will ignore medical advice and play with a niggling complaint. I think we can rely on him busting his gut to get on the park. The key will be whether he is good enough to make an impression in the few games he gets at the VFL level. At this stage, I think if we get to the end of the year and there is even a hint of his hamstring requiring medical attention, then he is gone. Unless he strings together 6 or more exceptional weeks of football.

I really want to see him succeed because his playing attributes are exactly what we need; he is strong in the contest, strong in the tackle, has explosive speed out of congestion or on the spread, and a good sized tank.

we always seem to have a hardluck story dont we .. Freezer , Markworth before him , Xav Clarke ...
all three such promiss but body letting them down.. at least with Xav he did get some footy in

Remember we had Jesse Smith (?) who we got from North I think, saw him play what was probably a rare game for Zebras at Victoria park, he looked so broke-down. Hobbling around like a knackered horse.
Saw him at Port Melbourne for us.

Was excellent. Ankle just buggered

Yeah, I have North mates who thought he was going to be one of the stars the comp before he broke down. When we got him I was super excited. He really had a cruel run with injury.

Use the cap space and go for Gaff

LOL.

There is no hope in hell that any decent FA would join us now.

I mean why would any decent player want to join the rabble that you saw today?.

In any case our trouble run deep and one player will do squat

Update on his injury from the club.

Freeman is now running at 85% speed. No real update on timeline given last week but now he is 4-5 weeks away..

Clearly they're being cautious but pleasing to see.

Until the club tell us he’s about to debut I’m not reading into anything that they are saying or expecting anything.
