So how many serious hammy injuries since Davorean arrived? Young, Sinclair, freeman, marsh, Moore, Reid.

Something is seriously wrong with our program. Players who rely on explosive pace need confidence in their bodies these set backs will take some time for him to get over.

He's a write off for two seasons. Not many players come back from that.
here you go tg to help your disappointment ;)

Ben Freeman for sure. Need to keep the Ben count up at the club.

And rid him of the Reid name. Sam has had plenty of injuries himself and we all know about their father Bruce's Australian cricket injuries...

We should probably spare a thought for how Freeman feels.

Three of those guys were doing hammys with other fitness staff and not just while davorean has been in charge.

Perhaps you're right and it's something minor, but his inability to generate pace 12 months after his tendon operation has me worried.

Especially when it's the key cornerstone of his game.
Agreed, it is a worry, but something like that could be explained by tissue build up, so I'm hopeful it's something like that.

I'm taking it as a positive that he ran the game out on Saturday. If he had been taken out early with 'soreness' I'd be more dubious about it being exploratory surgery.

Just deflated mate.

We really need our top 10 draft picks to be stars.

I'm with you. Had we truly bottomed out we would have an embarrassment of riches with top picks and could afford some of them not delivering on promise.

But the truth is we've almost been too good for own good. When you look at teams like Port, GWS, GC, Bulldogs, they run around with top picks and elite young talent at every line. This is who we will be against in our next try at a flag. While I believe our developing defence is up there with the best (Langdon, Frost, Williams, Ramsay, Marsh, Scharenberg, Maynard), our young midfield and forward talent is very thin in comparison. And the reason is it's much easier to get defending talent with late picks than midfield and even worse tall forward talent as the top ones are easy to spot and with the professionalisation of the draft will go in the top 20 without a doubt.

We have more than enough of the high end talent, they just simply can't get a good crack at it.
Broomhead and Kennedy keep getting illnesses or injuries just as their about to get a good run at it
Moore does his hammy
Grundy has a back stress fracture in his first year
Scharenberg comes with a foot problem then does his ACL on the comeback
Freeman about to miss most of 2 years with a hamstring injury

If all those guys had a good injury run we would have serious headaches about how do we fit them all in the team.

It has been described as exploratory surgery, which is very different from actually needing a tendon repair.

Hamstring injuries have a very high risk of reoccurence, it is the nature of the injury, and it is why the return to top level sport is so slow. And reinjury can mean a number of things - it doesnt automatically mean the worst.

My guess (/hope) is that Freeman has generally been getting back to fitness, but after a few weeks in the VFL the club doctors and physios have some concerns about how his recovery is going... and by peoples descriptions of how he has looked in the VFL, that might be just the reason: he hasn't been able to get back to full explosiveness in a game situation, and that may be because he hasn't recovered completely physically.
He would've seen the Orthopaedic Surgeon, and he would probably have already had an MRI, and you'd assume that the Surgeon doesn't have his answer yet so that is why they are taking him to theatre. It may be as simple as the Surgeon wanting to have a look to make sure there isn't significant scarring from the repair before giving the all clear. (With what has happened to Reid, and all of our other hammy's, the club is maybe just being super, super, cautious). There is obviously has to be a certain amount of concern to go in again, but that doesn't mean that he's actually done anything serious to it, or that he is going to need that much time out. (Or, it may mean the complete opposite... none of us are in the club, or in the doctor's rooms, so wen't know until they inform us of how the surgery goes).

3 things a player must have:

1. Ice in his veins
2. Warmth in his heart and
3. Timing and balance in his feet.

I don't believe in project players.. these are criteria that we must not overlook.

I don't think we are running thin in our mid talent at all.

Youre looking at scharenberg de goey freeman broomhead kennedy.. and who's to say that seedsman and others like ramsay and oxley cant be transformed into midfielders. And youre neglecting the fact that over the next 2-3 yrs there going to be talented mids we are gonna pick up not only in the draft but also in trade. Adding to those i mentioned. Our target should be a quality chf or second tall ala a gunston.

Our biggest problem is chf.. are we obliged to play white? 1 million freed up.. who is a free agent tall forward we can target.

Don't forget Sidebottom either, he only just turned 24.

Yep - not a Great Sign and Looking like he could sadly be a waste of a Top 10 Pick
Hate to say it but Cripps McCarthy and Sheed at 11 13 14 are looking bloody enticing right about now.

Maybe it doesn't really matter who we drafted ...

... whoever it ended up being might have been destined to be injured?

Shattered for the kid.
All those who appear to be "celebrating" their good fortune in being first to trumpet a career cut short, should be truly ashamed.
Side by side indeed.
If you truly think that there are posters "celebrating" their good fortune in being first to trumpet a career cut short' you are sadly misguided. No Collingwood supporter would want to be 'vindicated by an injury'. Perhaps you need to be a bit more side by side yourself.

You need to read the thread mate.
Plenty have wanted Freeman cut, or have questioned his recruitment in the first place.
Many of those are now in the "I told you so" camp.
I'm under no illusions about my "side by side". I'll blast a player/coach or
President/support staffer when I think they've been given ample opportunity to perform and have not. Or their performance has dipped below an acceptable level.
But I'm not going to slam a player while he is in a run of bad physical luck.
Welcome to the world of AFL.

If Davoren lasts past tomorrow, we have confirmation, mediocrity is accepted and embraced by Eddie and his board. What a long way we have fallen.

I can think of a couple on this board.
