Understand completely where you're coming from. A second round pick would be what we'd want I'd think IF it was set in stone that he was going. I don't think that's worth giving up on him at this point, so I hope we retain him.

But if the boot was on the other foot, I'd be extremely reluctant for the Pies to spend any currency on a player with his injury issues.

He's worth whatever his manager can get for him mate. That's all these rumours are at this time of the year. As for how Pies supporters feel about a kid that's played a couple of reserves games going to StKilda?....we'll see what Hines and Rendell make of it I guess? As a Saints fan, I would probably give up 2015 + 2016 3rd rounders for him and if that didn't get it done I'd say thanks but no thanks. Unfortunately for you guys he has zero currency despite being pick 10 just two years ago due to his rotten hammys and being OOC.

I've also heard that he's only being offered a one year deal by the Pies but wants two years, hence the potential for him to leave. Any truth to that?

yes you're right. freeman has zero currency which is why st. kilda is interested in him....

3rd rounders?? Ok, I'll give you 2 second rounders for Mcartin. Didn't play much senior footy this year and didn't kick any bags of goals. Therefore he doesn't hold much value as a former top 5 draft pick.

What did Hawk's get O'Rourke for in relation to his original draft position? Drafted Pick two in 2012, traded for pick 19 in 2014. A couple of (early) third rounders might be paying overs..

Great call. Same with us getting Billy Longer, who was Pick 8 two years before he was traded to us for Pick 25.

Plus both of those guys had played a handful of AFL games in their two years, and didn't have serious continuous injury concerns.

That's the thing though, if he's worth nothing he needs to get it into his head that he should take whatever contract is getting thrown at him, assuming it's actually a fair offer. If he starts considering offers from other clubs it likely means they're offering him substantially more which means he's obviously worth something all of a sudden which means they'll be prepared to pay up on the trade table (unless it's Essendon).

I'm always a bit surprised why st. kilda trades and drafts players. It seems a waste of time for them. What are they trying to achieve? And it's so hard on young players who have to go there and know that they will never win a premiership. Very sad to do that to young men.

If you pay a little extra to 2 kids then other players will start demanding a little extra, once a few more players do it that "little extra" turns into quite a lot and means we don't have the cap space for someone like Treloar.

But Kreuzer is a huge risk as well considering his injury riddled history.
