This game is bothering me a bit. How quick are others going up in rating? I've played every game of the season so far (others doing this?), and currently played 30 or so, but only gone up from 61 to 63 in rating. Still starting off the bench as a PG. Thus far have a rookie of the month award. When are others usually in the starting line-up?

I hardly get any rebounds because I'm always marking my man. If I leave him to go to the basket to get the rebound I lose points in that team cohesion thing (allow man to score).

I also can't steal without fouling. :(

I can subbed in as a SG usually (despite being a point guard from creation), but my stats so far is about 16ppg, 0.3 spg, 0 rbg, 1.5 apg. So I can score points really well, but I can't get any of the others. Is this a bad thing? Will I not get sponsors because of this?

When do I go up in rating more from 63? Should I just start playing key games instead of every game? Tips for getting rebounds without allowing my man to score?

Stealing is the easiest thing in this game. Tough to actually strip a PG or SG but if you interrupt passing lanes you'll rack up plenty of steals. If a centre or PF has the ball go to strip them and 60% of the time you'll get them. Should be able to average 3 steals a game without even trying. Every time I get a triple double it is points, assists and steals.

Rebounding is hard. I usually don't go for the rebounds and instead just box out the centre or PF as the AI doesn't box out and it results in heaps of offensive rebounds which kills us. I average about 3 rebounds a game, but Kaman and Griffin get most of them.

On defence, if your opponent is on the wings go for the rebound. If they're out at the top of the key dont go for the rebound and instead just be there ready for the outbound pass to transition into offence.

If you want to increase your rating improve things like consistency, offensive and defensive awareness in the emotion ratings section.

Ive gone from bench player to starter and 18th in the league for ppg & the #1 rookie in the league and ive gone up from 61-65 after playing 41 games in my first season. In terms of skill points ive distributed probably 80% towards my offence. I was in the starting lineup from about the 15th match.

I was getting plenty of rebounds at the Pacers (around 3 a game once I became a starter) but have had about 2 rebounds total in 4 matches at the Magic with Howard owning the boards. Also cant get an assist to save myself at the Magic as Howard tends to take too long to shoot for the assist to count.

If you give yourself a bit of room with your man then you should be able to scoot under the ring once the opposition shoots and get some rebounds, though if they get the offensive rebound you better bolt back to your man otherwise they will pass it out to him for an easy basket. Its just a matter of timing and calculating the risk.

I have issues with stealing as well. I probably average a steal every 3 matches.

Had an epic match against the Heat last night which left in a mega rage quit. Sank the game tier with 0.5 seconds left to send the game into OT after coming from about 7 points down with a minute to go. Then the match went into double OT. We were a point down with 19 seconds on the clock, I ran the clock down to about 5 seconds, dished off a great pass to Duhon in the open, laid an awesome double screen to give him plenty of room to make the shot. He pump fakes, goes up...fakes the shot and proceeds to pass the ball into the back of my head whilst im screening. I quickly pick the ball up and shoot which missed to me screaming WHAT THE **** WAS THAT? Stupid ****ing AI. Dunno what part of the programming should contain IF player open with 2 seconds on the clock and a point down THEN pass into the back of the controllers head.

A few times I would be down late in the game, needing to score quick points (especially some 3s) but my AI team mates just dribble down the clock for some ****ing stupid reason. My PF is shit at 3s but I will still sit outside the arc and call for the pass to try and at least attempt a 3 and then I get marked down for "Bad Call for Pass". It is infuriating.

Also to the dude above if you are a PG don't worry about boards too much, definitely don't leave your man open because there is an extremely good chance they will sink the shot which will hurt your team and of course your MP. I only played Key games mainly in my first season but in the second I am playing every match and after about 5 or 6 I was in the starting lineup. Depends who you have in front of you I guess.

do the team thing.
only way to get good scores up in ratings

improve your low stats first, got my centre up to 85 in one season

set screens, lots of screens, they're free points

drive lanes, should be able to draw fouls

box out your opponent, and after the ball has hit the release the box-out button, stay in the same spot, bit of luck involved but it should bounce to your player whilst giving you stats for boxing out

Also playing 10 minute quarters so I get more points. Is this how it works? Or if I play 5 minute quarters will it all scale down somehow?

points scale up on shorter quarters

also, if you put sim quarter to equal actual quarter, you'll have a greater chance of milestones (MVP, scoring title, etc)

Awareness plays a huge influence on Ratings. Pump Offensive/Defensive awareness up and your Ratings will go up very quickly

Love using the Alley-oop for the easy junk and how the commentators react when it's successful. Admittedly I get it wrong sometimes and it costs me in TO :p.

Playing as a SG and will take the awareness on board for rating :)

Well after just about giving up myplayer an starting fresh due to not getting any billboards, sponsorships etc since requesting a trade an getting traded to team i wanted to.
I played 2 more games an after 2nd game got a crapload of billboards an sponsorships etc.
Got to design my own shoes, got billboards an a tv ad.
An made the cover for 2 things. :P

Im up to 75 overall, just after allstar games.
Play 10min qtrs.
Im a 6'6 white MJ wannabe.
Play every game
Never try to steal from pg's or sg's.
If you want steals when there near you with the ball try to steal from centres an Power forwards, only attempt steals on guards late in game when desperate.

Also sit off your opponent a few steps trying to entice them to pass it to him as soon as u see it headed that way, intercept it.
I get about 5 a game that way.

The first stats i pumped up were all shooting related ones, dunking an endurance.
Dunking isnt necessary but to be a white MJ wannabe gotta be able to dunk :)
Offensive an defensive awareness isnt really necessary until later, because if you just stick close enough to your man at all times on defense theres no need.

Oh an for rebounds dont leave your opponent until someone from their team shoots, as soon as they do sprint towards the rim to try an grab the rebound.

Have made a pretty good parternship with Dwight Howard. We're scoring about 80% of the teams points between us at the moment. Absolutely smashed the shit out of the Pacers (being my old team this was sweet!) 72-17. Was 47-4 at half time :D

Jesus!

Thanks for the tips everyone. I'll try and pump stats into those areas. All I've been putting stats into so far is just medium/close shots. Despite them being 85 or so, I'm still missing the shots half the time. I'll put some into off/def awareness (which will hopefully make the shot rate go up) as well as some into def. rebound.

It's a lot of skill points but put some into improving your pull up jumper ability. Will really help on those mid range jumpers. Also don't worry about your overall rating, you're much better off putting points into the ones you're doing to become a better player. The overall will come with just playing more games and skill points spent. I got to 99 somewhere around halfway through my 3rd season, it comes pretty quickly after you build up the more important stats first.

Also wrt to rebounding, getting your vertical rating up is really important.

I didn't think it was possible to score 4 in a half. Makes me want a trade even more now.

Last night my Philly side snapped our 16 game losing streak against Memphis. Picked up my first player of the game as well. I helped drag us back into the game in the 4th with a block then assist in the same play, hit a few jumpers to get it back to a tied game. Then nailed another one to give us the lead before blocking Randolph's attempt to send it to OT. Was pretty pumped after that! Hope other clubs took notice though none are interested at the moment.

So am I the only person that double teams everyone to boost my team rating?

I do it all the time. :o Very easy way to get it up.

I started off averaging about B- in team scores. Since I figured out the double team trick I'm usually hitting A.

bloody hell you guys suck :p

apart from my first 10 games (as a bench player) and the game I got injured in the 2nd, I haven't dropped bellow an A+ :)

gotta love drawing 15 fouls a game

What difficulty are you playing on? Anything under Hall of Fame is fairly easy to score and get to the bucket.

The easiest way to boost your teammate grade is still good shot defence.

The biggest boost would be steal, steal/block leading to score, fast break score, slam dunk, good shot selection, (and one, convert and one).

I double team, but it can lead to you get severely burnt if you leave a player to go and double team as almost every AI player that isn't a PF or C can hit an open 3 in this game.

In my player mode in 2k11 you got to a point in the game where you were the star of the team and management would come to you to see what other players around the league you were interested in trading for. I've played through a whole season, lifted my rating to 92 but this hasn't happened yet. I've tried searching on the Internet but found nothing. Does anybody know if this feature still exists?
