Just some quick points from listening to NC on 5AA just now.
Roo he sees as more a bench player able to play forward and midfield. This was due to last year when he was struggling up forward they put him in the middle for 4 - 5min bursts and he was able to find the football easily. That may be were he comes in under selection consideration.
Our ultimate forward line if all players available would be Hentschel to play last line and also as CHF. He said that Rodwy played his junior football as a midfielder and it shows in how he moves around the ground. A tall option either Perrie or McGregor that will be strong at the footy and the contest even if the delivery is not clean. Roo who the opposition has to put a decent defender on just because of not only his ability but also his desire to play the game. Welsh who provides another option similar to Roo and then a crumber ala Bode.
They asked him about what he thought about Roos getting his leadership group to pick the team a couple of weeks ago. He said that our group as done that twice before so that they understand the process and that it is not just about balance all the time but also about how you then have to tell the player about how to improve and reasons why they are being not selected. I got the impression that this an excercise and not an actual selection. Craig reiterated that he would listen to the advice that the Leadership provide and take that very strongly into consideration but he would not put that pressure on our group to actually select the team.
He said that we don't focus as strongly on the opposition as other teams do - and this is from the people that have worked at other clubs that have now come into ours. He reported that we have started doing it a little more this year than in previous but we will still focus more on what we can do than the opposition.
Asked about the critiscim that he has coped in relation to game plan (i.e tempo) and also about Jesper and Rucci saying that he gives them nothing in the press conferences. In relation to game plan he said that tempo is one strategy that we use when the momenteum is not ours. He believes it is the only strategy that will work at that time in a game. Man on Man he knows does not work (Graham agreed) and he does not know why, but he knows that it doesn't work. It would only be for a 3 or 4 min and not a full game ala Hawthorn and St Kilda and Hawthorn and Brisbane earlier in the year.
On the press conferences - he did asked the club and other people around him if they thought the critiscim was justified. He did say that he sometimes can not fully reveal information and Cornes picked him up on this and asked if after a game he has information to hide and he said not really. His feedback he received was opposite to what Jesper and Rucci are claiming.
If I think of other stuff I will put it in here too.
