Definitely. However one of the indicators that this may NOT be in is that it only got into bigger sports games like NBA only last year. There is probably a fair work of programming and graphics work behind it.
Been in Smackdown vs Raw for at least 5 years now, was on PS2 when I used to like wrestling, shouldn't be too hard

I reckon this game will be an average 5-6/10 game with comments in the reviews along the lines of "decent first effort, but only buy if you're the type of mad AFL fan who has a room in their home dedicated as a shrine to their particular team. For everyone else, grab the latest FIFA instead".

I hope I'm wrong though, and the game pushes up towards 8/10 territory.

Not sure about that. If there is a create a player mode in the game then the graphics already have to be generated in the game. It wouldn't take much effort to take a snapshot of the face for the player profile.

Yeah thats what I hope for but like I said in games like NBA 2K8 and 2K9 they didn't even have this feature in. Somebody referred to Smackdown before I think in the latest smackdown it loads the entire player not just a snapshot.

Edit: Just so there is no confusing, I WANT this feature to be in lol I want to be able to create Strauchanie and go to the profile screen and see his awesome profile haha

Quick question to Ross, how closely are you yourself involved in this phase of the game? Like being 15 I dont really get how this all works but say the game is done do you personally, as the CEO of BigAnt, give it like your tick of approval and then it is sent off to Sony and Microsoft to be approved? lol sorry I dont understand the system some insight would be nice thanks.

Ross said that the fundamentals of the game are done. i think he also said that they are just bug fixing now. so there has to be a deadline as to when the bug fixing is done and a final release is packaged up/signed off on.

Asking that date from Ross is probably too much but i guess thats where Big Ant involvement ends. then HES and the AFL take ownership and do what they like. that'd be my guess.

Quick update needed.

Hudson shaved his beard.

In saying that, I think with the way the player models have turned out, I probably won't be skipping too many replays, especially within the first few weeks of playing it.
I just hope there's a bit of variety with the replays. I have no problem watching them if they're different the majority of the time. But with regards to past AFL games with the generic celebrations that went past a flick of the hand and that's it, it wasn't worth watching through that!

What you have to know is that just because certain features aren't in a game or haven't been, doesn't mean they're automatically hard to put in.

Sometimes a specific feature like that is just the very last thing on a developers list and as the years go by that gets moved up and the developer says "well, we might as well chuck this in now".

It really wouldn't be a hard thing to implement as MM said it's just the games assets and taking a screenshot and sticking it in the profile without a background. It being in the game all just depends on a) whether the programmers at BigAnt have taken the time to implement it and b) whether they care enough to implement it.

Would be interesting if they put in real celebrations from real players and certain players who celebrated more in real life, celebrated in the game and players who just give a high 5, do that in the game, minor and not a big deal, but would be cool

I hope not cause if Koschitzke scored a goal half the St.Kilda team would be off with broken noses from his wayward high 5s. But then again it's Koschitzke, don't have to worry about him scoring too many goals any time soon.

I'm not suggesting that the game will be as good as NBA 2K11, but will be the game mirror the 'tv-like' experience that the game creates?

2K11 creates a great 'tv-like' experience with the court-side reporter, showing the players getting off the bus or in the change rooms prior to the game, Sprite Slam Cam, the HP half time report, the promotion of upcoming fixtures during the quarter time breaks and the little pre game build up they do.

Compared to FIFA11 which doesn't really create such an experience.

Obviously this game wouldn't be as advanced as something like 2K, and I understand something like this probably hasn't been a priority for this edition, but would creating a 'tv-like' experience be something you are considering for the future?

Pretty simple $$$$$$

I seem to recall Ross saying ages ago that they want it so that when someone walks past and glances at the TV, it's hard to tell if it's a real game of AFL or a video game. May be wrong, but I think Ross said that that's what they are eventually aiming for.

He said that, and from the screenshots, it looks great, but I haven't seen a sports game that looks like an actual game except for Tiger Woods 11 screenshots, inb4 tigers wood etc. jokes

are people expecting much from the off-field content, particularly during season mode?

for example, if a player gets hurt during the game, do we get a doctors report after the game saying how long he'll be out? or maybe we'll see newspaper/tv headlines of results from other games over that round?

i know the most important aspect of the game is what happens on the field, but those little things can make a difference and help build that tv style or season mode experience.

This year? No

Next year? Absolutely.

I wouldn't go that far just yet. I think a lot of people are expecting a monumental difference from this years version to next. While it will still be pretty big, don't go expecting everything to jump in there as there'll probably still be plenty of stuff to work with on the gameplay side of things that will be first and foremost checked before the superfluous stuff gets added in. And let's face it, match reports/newspaper stuff is very superfluous to the main experience (same goes for the 'Sprite Slam Cam' type of stuff for the 'TV experience').

I think we really need to wait and see where this version is at before speculating as to what will and could be in next years.

I'd be more to saying "This year? No" "Next Year? Maybe" "3-4 years from now? Almost assuredly". Wouldn't want to go raising expectations of what features will be in so fast is all.

Pre-ordered my copy from EB Games a few days ago. The guy at the counter said that there had been over 40 pre-orders in the space of a couple of days.

This game is going to be huge.

good call. it took fifa years and years to get its manager mode to where it is today, and same with the association mode on NBA 2k.

if big ant continue to make 3 - 5 more games, it will be a pretty complete AFL game. but hey, i cant wait to just play this one
