New AFL Video Game - Wii - Q&A Thread

Pretty good that we go from not having an AFL game for 4 years to having 2 within 2 months.
Hopefully it offers enough that's different to AFL Live to keep fans playing both.

Hi Everyone,

Collingwood and Geelong VFL teams are in the game however the VFL player names are not licensed. There are a few interchange settings including an auto rotation feature.

Hope you enjoy the trailer.

Are any non-AFL teams licenced?

What's stopping you from using the player names?

how much difference is there between the ps3 and the wii version in gameplay.

Can we also see some screenshots of the career mode menu and other screenshots

Great trailer guys. Who here will be buying the game?

I haven't turned on my Wii in over a year. Tempted to blow off the dust to give this a shot. :D

definately buying this. looks like a great game and different enough to warrant owning both. i just wanna thank everyone involved in making both games and hope everyone supports them to encourage future afl titles

Does the gameplay flow or does it pause when you have to tackle, like what it shows in the trailer where it says "get ready" and "tackle"?

This, this and this. Haven't seen my Wii for a year, but I know it's here somewhere, and when I get the game I will find it just for this game!

I went into EB on Swanston St today and it was there on the demo console.
I only played around a half of a game but I can't say I was impressed.
For starters it looked very blurry, almost to the point that's unwatchable. I don't know if it's the TV they used but it was pretty bad.
I had no idea what the controls were and when I found them they were very over whelming (which hopefully means there's a lot of control over your players).
The real issue I had though was that every time you kick, the play pauses to wait for you to position and power your kick. The flow of the game was completely broken by this so I don't have high hopes for it.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the recent feedback. Just to explain some of the first conclusions: By default the game does go into a brief 1-2 second slow motion zoom in on kicks, handballs and tackles. We feel this gives a cinematic quality to the game and allows you to place shots more accurately. However this time is reduced as difficulty increases and if you really want to speed the game up, you can turn off all the slow motion completely and turn off the zoom as well. It is for exactly this reason that we provided a fair few options so players can customize, as we realize different players like very different things. Indeed our team was divided on some issues and when this happened, we usually put the option in.

Regarding the blurry images, it is possible the TV had something to do with it. However we do have some focal blur going on, especially in the replay TV cameras. Believe us this is better than the alternative which is ‘jaggies’ and ‘dancing’. And we understand it is hard to remember, however a brief reminder to everyone that this is a Wii Console that has arguably less than 10% of the power of a ps3 or xbox360. :) Anyway, the trailer was all in-game footage so there should be no illusions as to what your buying.

The game is out as of right now, and there is much more to explore in the game than you would perhaps get from half a game without understanding the control setup. We hope you all go and get yourself a copy, make up your own mind and let us know your favourite settings!

Just picked this up, can't play yet, but looking through manual looks much more comprehensive than ps3 version, can do grubber kicks, evade tackle, smother, fake handball, career mode looks great, can't wait to play, seems to have so much more to it, hopefully gameplays good, will post opinion tonight

I found it a bit blurry too, but the TV i play it on it a few years old so I'll try it out on the newer TV. The gameplay has a lot of tackles, about 80 in 5 minute quarters, and I'm finding it almost impossible to mark the ball. I reckon it'll get easier to play with the controls after a bit of practice. I'd like to try playing with a gamecube controller to see what difference it makes. I think it's a bit strange how the commentators don't know a few of the player's names, for example Dennis will say "five" instead of "Boyd". The rest of the game is pretty good, but has room for improvement.
