New EFC website

The outlay is of diminished value to the one we were previously using.

The new website is horrible.

Nearly as bad as that time bigfooty did an upgrade.....

Not trippin', like quite a few sites, when it detects you are using a mobile device it often looks a little different.

The clue is an 'm' at the beginning if the address bar.

Can someone tell me how I can view player profiles on the mobile website? I f***n hate it already.

Not sure, I had a look on my iPhone and couldn't see them either.

I have a feeling the mobile website might still be a work in progress. I hope so anyway, it's fairly hopeless as it is now.

Yeah the mobile website was launched in a very basic sort of layout- Hopefully they work on that sooner rather than later.

Why, why, why? One of the main reasons I used the site was to check fixtures and results of old games. It was perfect as in one page it had every game and the margin of the loss or win at the side. It was so easy to navigate through the past 15 years as well. Now that's all gone...

I don't think we're running a stand alone website anymore.

Without knowing for sure, I'm guessing we made the decision to transfer over to the Telstra way due to cost. We are now like the other 17 clubs.

The cost of running a site is expensive, from multiple versions, to multiple platforms, to multiple browsers to hosting and development costs. It makes sense financially to run with Telstra even though I freaking hate the Telstra site!!!!!

Our marketing team will now have an Administration area they log into and upload information/stories etc etc.

Essentially, Telstra develops and maintains one code base for an AFL club website. With the use of a simple configuration file the site then displays in a particular club mode. I.e. use specific colours, images and text.

It's a sad day but the right decision!

"Ohhh this makes me very angry"

Definite parallels with the recent changes to the AFL site, too.

Until recently you could watch highlights on the AFL site from every single from the start of 2009, and a full replay of all games since Round 1, 2010.

Now you can only watch 2012 games.

How on earth can you say this is the right decision? I understand there are costs, same as there was when the club decided to start the website way back when. We are talking amount a multi-million dollar operation, and this is the connection with hundreds of thousands of fans/potential fans. The only connection the club has to overseas fans is via the website, interstate fans will only have one match to go to if they're lucky (unlucky in Brissie!)

Massive backwards step by the club and I can only hope that the current site is a base and there are future tweaks planned to customise it to provide all of the info that it used to have. Maybe I'm dreaming though.

I'm hoping they don't lose all of the articles that EFC produced along the way, because the search function seems to have been semi-fixed (at least you can search for Watson and get results). For instance, I searched for "myers" a month or so ago and was able to go to the very first article on him, when he was drafted. Same for Barlow and Hardingham, before the PSD. Now when I search for myers I get no results. same for hardingham and barlow.

Actually, maybe they have only done a half-arsed version of a fix, cos a search for callinan gets 59 results! search for Thompson gets bomber on page 1 (19 results) but page 2 and onward is scott thompson (and results jump to 79!)

zackah doesn't like this

Fairly certain that the AFL made sure that EFC complied with our website falling under the AFL/Telsta umbrella, or there would have been a financial penalty.

Can Essendon_FC or EFC_Membership answer why the website has been changed? Why has the format been changed to something that is less functional? Why has so much good content, especially historical content, been removed? We are an old club full of proud history, it is damn right shameful that this stuff has been removed.

We should get 20 million people to say they hate the new websites, then maybe the AFL will change it...

So, effectively Australia's population?

So, effectively Australia's population?

Yes, hey if I became the AFL CEO I'd make the rules the way they were in 2000, i'd sack the whole rules commite and let fans decide on rules via an online poll, where afl players votes would count as 10,000 votes, and i'd sack the match committee and replace them with me, where i would look at actull evedience, then i would scrap all the deals with telstra, instead banning them from streaming to their devices, and instead give all other providers that for just $5/round, and if it lags, its free.

so vote for me!
