The right option won, in this case. The hoops were a good idea executed terribly; Mero's, while good for what it is, lost all meaning once the club altered it; and option #4 is a dog's breakfast that should never have made the 'final'.

I won't mind seeing this out on the field.

must admit it looks good on Aaron Saad

How was Mero's altered?
The side panel design was merely the Gold Coast logo tipped on its side. A creative use of their IP.

Then they inverted it as red dominated the panels and you can't have that, because it clashes with Sydney. Ignoring the fact that the white base is what creates the clash but anyway.

Let me re-phrase. Is this another case of the AFL enforcing a white clash policy on non-"Big 4" clubs?
I'll still be pushing WCE hard for Peril in 2017. Until the AFL officially says it has to be white, I don't think the supporters will give up - and watch the pitchforks come if the AFL do say it - with Richmond, Essendon, and previously Carlton all having non-white clashes.

A possible workaround is do what Adelaide now has - have white as the official clash, but have a yellow peril alternative - that we can propose to wear when it works. That should result in the white being an official jumper, but never actually worn.

Re Suns - who do they need a clash against? Brisbane? Sydney? Wearing a white based jumper v Sydney is not much better than Red. A yellow clash would have made more sense.

Sydney (this is an odd clash and probably why the AFL/Suns still have light blue in their colour scheme), Essendon, Brisbane, apparently Giants for no reason whatsoever, Melbourne, 50% chance Hawthorn (yellow clash), 50% Richmond (yellow clash), 33% chance Saints, and then just to **** with everyone the AFL will say "OH IT CLASHES WITH ADELAIDE AND THE BULLDOGS TOO BECAUSE THEY HAVE RED IN THEIR STUFF".

AKA nobody knows anymore.

Why do Suns need a clash when playing lions, when no clash is used when gws play the swans?

Because apparently maroon is too close to red. And yes, this also means that Suns vs Lions both have jumpers with a top half that's blue:

As for why GWS vs Sydney isn't considered a clash? The AFL said so. (although it may be the Tradition Showdown Rule which Crows vs PA use, or they deem orange to somehow not clash with red as orange is a light colour and red is not?)

Pretty sure both the Lions and Suns don't have to wear the clash but both choose to for exposure.

In over a century of soccerball, Aston Villa and Liverpool have almost certainly never played each other in their home kits. I'm not saying you are wrong. However, the customary view seems to support the idea that red v maroon/claret/burgundy is a clash.

Oh if only...

Didn't every crows supporter own (or still own) a back to back t shirt?

I remember a pretty cringe-worthy shirt that came out either late '98 or early '99 that played on Malcolm Blight's quote from the '98 final series that said to win "..two flags means you're freaks and to win three would take a miracle."

So a shirt came out not long after the 2nd flag "I believe in miracles.. Adelaide for three in a row" - or something like that...

And going by this season, they won't be playing each other at all next season. Lol

Would be nice if that rule applied in the west - both Freo and WCE wear white clashes in derbies. Although Freo's clash is respectable, I'd much rather see WCE in Royal (or a Peril clash) in an away derby.

This is speculative, but I'd guess that It's a club decision in Perth.

Both WC and Fremantle feel that all their guernseys represent their club, so which one they wear doesn't matter.

They choose to wear their clashes in such a big game to increase exposure and hopefully sales.
