Eddie last night called for other clubs to come up with new traditions to attract supporters.
He belives that ANZAC day should be reserved for Essendon v Collingwood and I have to agree with him, they started it, good on them I say. But what about every other club? what are some traditions that other clubs could start?
ANZAC Day - Derby day - Port v Adelaide and West Coast v Fremantle
Queens Birthday - Collingwood v Melbourne
Easter - plenty of options for Easter Monday, maybe even Good Friday.
North probably deserve good Friday as they pioneered night football - maybe proceeds could go the the RCH appeal - just a suggestion.
The new tradition I want to see is Geelong v Essendon on or as close to May 7 as possible, like they did in 1996 for the re-enactment game. For it to work well though, it has to be a night match and the only one on at the time, also at the MCG. To traditionally re-enact the first VFL game ever played would be a great marketing tool for both clubs and as always between these two teams would draw a bumper crowd.
