New Years Resolutions

I'm sort of doing that anyway, I started by only allowing myself one every half hour, and now it's out to one every hour, and a half. Hopefully I can get to the point where I just stop, it's bloody hard after nearly thirty years though.
I did it cold turkey after 20 years and many attempts. That was 6.5 years ago and I will never, ever go back. You can do it. :thumbsu:

If people want to quit smoking then read the book by Allen carr
I watched the movie/doco/educational video a couple of times. It didn't work right away but the points he made really stuck in my head and eventually it was like a switch just flicked off. Once I got past the first 2-3 weeks it was gravy.

I've always wondered why people wait until January 1 to start making changes in their life. If you're saying in November that your New Years resolution is to lose weight or stop drinking, then why don't you start trying to accomplish those things right then?
Because it's a lot harder to achieve those things when everyone around you is consuming like there's no tomorrow.

Edit 2 : stop crying when masturbating alone
So still okay to cry when masturbating in front of others? Maybe next year? :p

It made me give up for about a month. But then I took it up again. I then went on champix which made me crook as a dog. I gave up for a few months but then took it up again. The next time I was too scared to go back on champix so just went cold turkey Haven't had a smoke in 3 years.
I haven't met anyone who used Champex or Zyban that didn't go back to to smoking once they were off it. Not saying there isn't anyone mind but in my experience I've found that these people don't actually want to stop smoking. They're relying on the drug to make them want to stop smoking. It doesn't work like that. If you want to smoke, you will and you'll find any excuse to do so.

not be a fat campaigner.

i fail every year. so far 5 days in i am smashing this shit. i usually go well for 4 weeks then get shitfaced and then one bad day turns into a bad month and then i am fatter campaigner

That should give you more incentive, because if you can avoid temptation and stick to your goals during the most difficult month of the year then it will signal that you're truly committed to improving yourself.

Most people aren't though. They get in on the New Years resolution trend - "New Year, New Me" - and then fall back into their habits after 2 weeks.

Generally people tend to want to start easy and gradually up the difficulty level rather than start with insane difficulty. Can you seriously not understand that?

I can understand that.

I just find it a little odd that a grown adult with willpower could be lured so easily into temptation by the actions of their peers. If you've made a commitment in October/November to stop drinking so much because you realise it's causing you problems and you wait until January 1 to start pursuing that commitment because you couldn't handle seeing your co-workers get sauced at the Christmas party without you, it probably suggests a lack of discipline. There will be temptations year round. Just because December is a little more difficult doesn't mean you procrastinate on trying to improve yourself. No better time than now.

Well it depends what kind of 'problems' you're talking about. If you're talking about serious health issues then yes but I'd suggest most people making ny resolutions are doing so because it would be 'nice' to not eat/drink so much and shed a few kilos. I'd also suggest that December is a lot more than 'a little more difficult'. There's inherently a lot more food and drink not to mention celebrations and stress. It's stupid difficult unless you're planning on locking yourself away. In January there are a lot of people doing exactly the same thing which makes things a bit easier and you can then work your way through the challenges.

I stopped after 20 years and ill never touch the things again
Once you realize that having a cig is you trying to put your body back into being a non smoker you'll understand wtf I'm on about lol

No resolutions for me, never have really
If I want to stop or quit or start etc at something I do it when I want
All I remember about quitting cigs was it was a Tues at around 10.30am

I set goals and plan by months and years
So I want to have this done in the yard by Feb which means I can get that shed up by April etc etc
I have stuff mapped out for the next 5 years
I do it by starting with what the overall goal is and give myself a reasonable time to complete it in, I then work out all the steps to complete the final goal and fit them in working backwards towards the 'now'
I quit smoking as well on a Tuesday at about 10:30am when my packet ran out. That was on the 30th December, 2008.
