A Melbourne primary school teacher received threats and had to quit his job after telling students that some of the Prophet Muhammad's companions were terrorists.
The state school teacher's comments triggered a massive backlash in the community, with a Muslim youth centre calling for the Education Department employee to be sacked.
It is understood that police patrolled the teacher's home after threats were posted on social media.
One source said the teacher was afraid to go to the local shopping centre due to the anger in the community.
The teacher made the offensive comments in response to a question from a student about beheadings.

"Victorian government schools are secular and the personal religious views of staff should not be discussed in class."
In February, the Australian Principals Federation told Fairfax Media that schools were grappling with the radicalisation of students and parents.
Christensen is a white supremacist, sexist racist anti semitic, piece of s**t and it's a genuine embarrassment he was schooled in my home town of Mackay.Imagine if the indigenous folk adopted "reclaim australia" as a catchcry
Didn't know he was one of dem immigrants, he must be touched with that same special sort of genius as that soccer goalie who suggested Goodes be deported.Christensen is a white supremacist, sexist racist anti semitic, piece of s**t and it's a genuine embarrassment he was schooled in my home town of Mackay.
His family are Immigrants so he should take them and **** off if he wants Australia reclaimed.
Is Tony Abbott's regime the worst federal government ever?
Its inability to pass meaningful legislation is just one of many areas where the government has substantially failed.
The Abbott government has been in power 686 days and, in the wake of a turbulent half year capped off by the Bronwyn Bishop expense scandal, it is a valid time to ask a question that is often debated online and among political scientists. Is this the worst federal government ever?
I'm talking here about the effectiveness of the Abbott government. Can it pass legislation? Perform administration? Do Australians judge it to be effective? I'm not trying to make value judgments about whether it is a morally "good" government or whether its policies are good or bad (readers will have their own views).
Five police forces are investigating claims of historical child sexual abuse involving former PM Sir Edward Heath.
The Met, Wiltshire, Kent, Jersey and Hampshire forces are conducting separate inquiries into the late MP.
The BBC understands Wiltshire Police halted an inquiry into a brothel keeper in the 1990s after she said Sir Edward was involved in child sexual abuse.
The Sir Edward Heath Charitable Foundation said it was confident he would be cleared of any wrongdoing.
What's the correct metric for regressionist shitness and historical irrelevance?Uses a very limited metric. Also, this government has made a point of reducing legislation, for better or worse, so to judge them on this metric and therefore pass a judgment of "very poor" may be misleading.
Personally, I'm a little loathe to apportion to much blame to a hostile Senate. Once elected they are free to vote as they wish. The fact they got elected, and how they got elected, is a larger problem which requires addressing.

Abbott once dethroned should be deported he has dragged our country so far backwards.
Close to treasonous.

What was surprising about this to me is that they were also private training providers enticing students to pay huge amounts for courses that don't appear to be delivered. I thought that the government had cleaned up all the rogue RTO's.
Agree completely. Had my own RTO in the early 2000's was going on then but thought they had caught most of them. Too easy to become one now and government seem to favour them than putting money into TAFEs.This has been a problem that past and immediate govts either haven't fixed or wanted to fix.
Disgraceful.
Abbott once dethroned should be deported.
Irrelevance....Agreed, but also have to ask you what is your appropriate punishment for those useless campaigners Rudd and Gillard?
The college offers overseas students certificates in business management and early education learning, which are used to support applications for 457 and other types of visas to work in Australia."
Irrelevance....
They both payed the price.
There was piece of legislation that the Gillard gov put through that was going to be in affect in Nov 2013 but the Abbott gov overturned. Then they just made it easier again.Yes Maggie, its utter BS and long been so. Under Howard it was even worse. Australia isn't selling education, its selling passports. All the gumph about "educational exports" is just a load of nonsense. One of the best things Gillard/Rudd did was to crack down on it but they should have gone further.
