This isn't about whether or not Rooey is captain next year, rather, who will eventually replace him?
You can choose two options (captain+vice if you like). It's a really close call for me, they're all so even. But I'm leaning towards Ross! He's had a meteoric rise this season, and I've seen enough on and off field to know he'll be great. He's become tough, courageous, skillful, respected, and impressive with the media.

Having said that, all the guys listed are in the same boat! I honestly can't split them, but my gut has Ross ahead by a whisker atm. Imagine saying that six months ago, credit to the man!

I think if you have a A grade footballer [ Jack Steven ] in your team, you reward him with the captaincy. I think it may even take him to another level.
Don't believe the perception that he is too quiet/ shy to captain a side. There have been plenty of good captains in history that don't have that extroverted nature.

I was on Armo but if Roo doesn't Captain next year I think Geary gets it. Wouldn't be my choice but that is how I think they will go. Would love it to be Steven but just cant see it even though he seems to be improving weekly on his media stuff.

I reckon Richo will look at the best fit for the next 5 years, not who is for 2017/18.

Gears is having a fantastic year & will be a leader for as long as he plays....I'm just not sure that he'll still be best 22 come 2019/2020.

Will we appoint a skipper for only 2 or 3 seasons?

The younger generation of Newnes & Mav are outstanding leaders on field, will be best 22 for at least the next 5-6 seasons & will develop into quality performers in the media.

I reckon Steven will be happier and perform better without the added responsibility (despite his unbelievable game v Carlton as stand in skipper).

Mav or Newnes.

Gears is the on field leader who doesn't need to be captain.

Newnes is that professional "face of the club" type who you'd want at press conferences or talking on behalf of the players. Old man's head in a young man's body.

Mav is more of the firebrand, body on the line style clubman. He's a great player but I'd have him deputy to Newnesy

Wasn't Mav punching on with a Thai copper at Full Moon a few years back?
No, Mav got king hit by a Thai police officer whilst trying to break up his GC mates from an altercation.

Jack Newnes.

Looked captain material since the day he walked through the door, and there is no other individual under the age of 28 that even gets close to his level of consistency. Calm head and courageous.

And do it next year while Rooey, Joey and Dempster are still around.
