Granted we are only half way through this season however in some respects it's the ideal time to see who can stand up leading into next year. i'm wondering peoples thoughts on our next captain. in my opinion the options ( without being captain obvious, ( no Pun intended ) ) are the below. with my thoughts also.

Howe - His game has gone to a new level and stays on the park ( bad timing lol ) and is super consistent. players seem to get around him and has a calmness about him.. his age however goes against him.

Sidebottom - Has captained the side already in his own right a few times and, his super consistent, doesn't miss any games literally. and has the players. Age is probably boderline. allthough given he is not the quickiest player anyway and given his resiliency his the type of player that can go well into his 30's

Adams - has been touted the captain in waiting for the last 2 years, personally i don't see it. he is consistent and certainly flies the flag. but he also is somewhat injury prone and get's reported as he does play on the edge, also i don't believe that he has the temperament to calmly lead the team as he is a hot head.

Treloar - his at a good age, leads by example both on and off the track, he does fly the flag not dissimilar to Adams however is far more measured when doing so. my only concern that he does have a little figjam about him which can rub teammates perhaps up the wrong way. not dissimilar to bucks early in his career. certainly in the running

Grundy - Great age, become(ing) super consistent. leads by example both on and off the field and is in the guts throughout the whole game which imo helps lead the team. seems super committed to the team also.

Moore - shows leadership qualities, but really hasn't actually done much when on the field and so far has been injury prone. also the commitment to the club is a bit unknown.

Phillips - his the dark horse for mine. in some regards he reminds me of sidebottom. his showing signs of being super consistent. he seems to set training standards and speaks extremely well and very astute. seems to be the loyal type and isn't necessarily in it for the $$$ and comitted to the club. next year might be a stretch as he would have just turned 23 but 2020 would be almost the ideal candidate assuming his continued growth

Age makes no difference for the captaincy imo, what do you gain from having the 3rd or 4th best leader at your club as captain just because he’s a couple of years younger then the best...?

I think long term we’re probably looking at Adams or Treloar. But I think Pendle’s to keep it for next year, then probably pass it on to Sidebottom for a couple of years while we wait for one of the younger guys to really put their hand up for it.

Wouldn’t be opposed to Sidebottom taking it next year if Pendle’s wants to take a break from the responsibility.

Reckon Pendles will remain captain for another 3 + seasons. His role might change but the bloke will be walkup best 22 til he decides to hang up the boots.

Otherwise don't mind Sidey or Howe. Think Grundy is probably too laid back. Not keen on Adams for some reason. If Dunn was younger he'd make the perfect captain IMO.

If the handover is 4 years from now, if he's still at the club and injury free, then Scharenberg would be in contention.

agreed but if you have 2 candidates that are clear captaincy material, personally i would choose the younger one as i'm not a fan of swapping and changing captains on a regular basis.

I think Pendles will remain captain for at least another season or 2 but if he wanted to hand it over next season Sidebottom is the obvious candidate for me. I like a captain playing midfield or defence so he can see the hole game in front of him. If its 3 years down the track i'd think Scharenberg could be in line for it. Is already becoming a general of defense after what... 20 odd games. get him to 70-100 games and he will be a leader. If either of the Brown boys become established senior players in the coming seasons and they have half the amount of leadership qualities of there old man then we will be in a good spot.
I'm a big fan of Maynard as well, has been forgotten about the last few weeks, but I think he is going to be a Very good footballer for us and has that hard edge that makes a good on field leader. Not sure about his off field personality but his name would have to be in discussion as well.

Whilst Pendlebury wants it it’s his.

The next captain assuming Pendlebury stood down (in next few years) is all but guaranteed to be Sidebottom.

The only challenger I see, but apparently not his thing is the great Grundy.

He’d be sensational.
He’d even have Broomhead sweeping up behind him.

Sidey for me as the next captain.
After that I am not sure. Adams was highly regarded as captain material when he came to the club but I think Treloar has gone past him.

I don't think we will be able to go past Darcy Moore within 3 years. Once he gets a fair crack at the game, he will dominate

IMO;
- If Pendlebury gives it up at the end of this or next year then its Sidebottom. I would be very surprised though as it doesn't seem to burden him, and he has a few seasons left as a big contributor. Very very long shot, but maybe Dayne Beams!?
- If Pendlebury holds onto it for 3 years + then it comes down to Grundy, Scharenberg, or Moore. My guess would be Grundy as he will be more established and credentialed than the others.

I like the call on Phillips though, from people who watch is he a bit of an organiser on the field and the track?? I haven't observed him that closely but he's certainly becoming a quality player!

Grundy I reckon... The captain should be the tallest guy whaddya reckon? Cox doesn't count because he will get traded when we get Lynch, lol.
