An update on a Cal post

Afl likely going ahead with a new NGA nominating system which allows other clubs to nominate a player if their club don't nominate them

So for example
If Dogs don't nominate Alex Tsia, other another club can place him on their draft list and if not drafted would go straight to their cat b roster spot

In the past, clubs had to either draft the player in the late or rookie pick or hope to sign them later on


The North Sanders situation is making them reconsider the bidding process with NGA. A solid chance of a re structure this as many clubs have complained about not getting access to players they have invested 4-5 years in

Spoke to Alex Tsia and asked him if he’d be at the Dogs next year and he replied with a winky face. One to keep an eye on regarding a Cat B rookie spot.

Interesting move
Was mainly playing as a small forward for Jets this year
Had a very up and down season

So be interesting to see how he develops in an all system

Hussein Kadour not in our NGA program now VD? Watched a few older games from earlier in the year, I think he would be a chance for a Cat B rookie spot if he was.

Kadour is more likely to be a Cat B than Tsia.

I think Alex Tsia was just being hopeful more than anything. He wouldn’t know IF he was going to be picked up by us until a bit later in the year.

He wasn't listed in the AFL reported by Cal earlier this year

Though Clubs can change at last min like Hawks with Tew Jiath

Sanders and his aboriginal issues was talked about on the Trade thread
HS has cleared it up regarding the process:

Ryley Sanders did not need to provide documentation of his Indigenous heritage to play with the Flying Boomerangs but this year presented a certificate to the AFL to prove it as part of the NGA process

I’m fine with Sanders being granted NGA status but surely the AFL can’t bend the rules to get him to Norf when he inevitably goes before 40.

How would you feel if you were the Saints last year who were a bit of a basket case, and missed out on Mackenzie

I presume North can provide details and verifiable records of how they have continuously developed Sanders as a member of their Next Gen Academy over the last few years.

If they can then good luck to them both … assuming a bid only comes in at pick 41 or later.

If not they and the AFL are making a total mockery of the NGA and all the justifications the AFL has made for their various academy rule changes over the last decade.

I wouldn't be shocked if they go back to zone recruiting in the next 10 years

If they can use the talent pool already part of the program

Cause Dogs and Hawks will have a bidding war soon with Kobe Williams

The Hawks F/S has been with Dogs NGA program for a few years and loves it

Haven't seen him listed on any hawks programs over the last couple of carnival

He's a potential top 10 pick as a dashing midfielder

Kadour was named in the Bachar Houli Academy team today
So potentially he moved over to that since that's Islamic focus player development

So be interesting to see if he would still be part of our academy come next of year

Edit: Bachar Academy has no ties to Richmond program
Just an extra Academy program

THE AFL has told clubs it will be reviewing the bidding system, Next Generation Academy incentives and draft value index as it embarks on the off-season.

Clubs were told in a memo from the League's football boss Laura Kane this week that they would be working with clubs to find further improvements in a range of areas, including the operations of the bidding system for father-sons and Northern Academy players.

It also said it would be reviewing the restrictions on matching bids for NGA prospects – currently clubs can only match bids outside the top 40 selections – and the discounts that are applied to matching bids as well.

The structure of the draft value index is also expected to be looked at, with the draft points system first introduced in 2015 and having remained the same value per pick throughout that time.

Some clubs feel there is an opportunity to take stock of the draft, bidding, Academy and NGA system in one hit with a lower number of draftees getting selected in recent years and expected again this season. – Callum Twomey

Can I ask why the AFL is so obsessed with neat round numbers (ie. outside pick 40) when the opportunity to say outside the second round is right there? Depending on who's doing what each year pick 41 could be 2/3rds of the way through the 2nd or half way into the 3rd. Its insane.
