He'll have a Mark Lavender/Greg Mail-type career in shield cricket - decent enough at that level but will never truly be considered for national honours because he's nowhere near test quality.

We just sat though Jake Weatherald struggling an average test attack, we've seen guys like Marcus Harris and Cameron Bancroft dominate the shield and not make it at the highest level - making shield runs doesn't always translate. And Tim Ward hasn't even made as many runs as those guys.

Not everyone who does well in shield does well in tests. Everybody who has done well in tests has done well in shield.

That pair have a looser technique than Ward. If he can carry on in second shield round, then he is well and truly in Test conversation as that will be two super seasons on the trot. Up to date he has scored 1100 runs from 13 matches and despite his lack of conversion CA has picked him in A games because he is reliable.

Agree. Up till last 12 months Jake Lehmann has been bloody awful. Should be no where near a Test side.

Yes, we know you love to blindly quote stats with zero context. Remember that he's 19 years old, has a good technique and shown the ability to bat his team to victory on multiple occasions despite his tender age. Is he the finished product? No. Is he a very good prospect? Yes.

Nobody is saying he has to be in the next test. He's not the finished product, but he's a 19 year old who has delivered multiple match winning performances at professional level and people are getting excited by that. That's it.

Outside of Konstas' very hot start to last season (in which it was practically demanded that he get picked as an opener for the first test) how many players were able to produce match winning performances for their pro sides at 19? You're banging on about him not being a consistent player at 19, when he's a decade away from his peak.

This is a weird view.

Peake has been highlighted by those watching the game since he stepped in underage to the 2024 u-19 world cup.

No one gives a crap about his state.

He's had a series of promising performances across the entire development pathway. People are hopeful that continues, as he our most obvious u-19.talent (probably with Steve Hogan).
