Round 8

Watsonia 7th vs Diamond Creek 1st. The saints battled hard last week against premiership favourites Eltham but went down by 13 points. H Sinclair, Lucente and A Sinclair were in the votes and they haven’t made any changes. For Diamond Creek Lewis was 10 vote BOG with Booth, Barnes also in the votes. They are strengthening with the return of Marshall from suspension and Dicello and Pingree. The demons to get one over the saints. Diamond Creek by 27 points

Eltham 2nd vs Northcote Park 4th. The panthers did what was required last week with McCormick getting the 10 coaches votes. Owen returns as well which gives them another goal kicker. For the cougars they look to bounce back after a disappointing home lose to Sth Morang. No cougars players were awarded coaches votes and they will need the likes of Boyse, Perry, Clark and Marcon firing to trouble the panthers. Eltham by 31 points

Epping 9th vs Panton Hill 6th Massive results for Wpping last week in beating Lower Plenty and moving off the bottom of the ladder. Newport, Rakhlin (4 goals) and Hollow in the votes and they will look to build on that this week against Panton Hill. The redbacks got 2 points from last weeks draw with Keys outstanding form continuing to take the overall lead in Division 2 coaches award. With a St Marys win over Thomastown, and a redbacks win they could find themselves in the top 5 for the first time this year come 5pm Saturday. Panton Hill by 37 points

Sth Morang 3rd vs Lower Plenty 10th. The lions continue on their merry way in division 2 and now sit 3rd, a game clear of 4th and a chance to build on their percentage this week. Hall and Kalpakis were both fantastic last Sat and will loom to continue they form. For Lower Plenty the season went from bad to worse in losing to Epping and are now 1 game behind them and a favourite for relegation to division 3 in 2024. Another tough day for the bears, Sth Morang by 43 points

St Marys 8th vs Thomastown 5th. Two teams that are really hard to get a read on, with inconsistency plaguing both teams. The bears would have been massively disappointed in not getting the full 4 points last week against Panton Hill. Toss of the coin, giving Thomastown one more chance. Bears by 14 points

Good luck to all players selected as 23rd man this week. Enjoy the footy

W vs DC - DC to win this but might be challenged by Watsy who have a decent effort against Panther. DC -12

SM vs LP - Lower would be devastated with their performance and it won’t get better. They looked horrible. SM by 45

Epping vs PH - PH will burst eppings bubble 34

TT vs SM - Thommo should beat St Mary’s here, both sides making up numbers at this stage

NP vs ELT - Picking an upset here. Byron and Bongetti both out will leave Eltham short up forward. NP 12

Going to be a very long year at Lower.

Nearly a 100 point loss today. Will Plunkett survive the rest of the year?

They’re no good at all, won’t even be a force in div 3 next year. In serious trouble

Can anyone tell me why Keys from Panton Hill previously Lower is not playing DIV 1 or Premier football?
He was the best at Lower last season and many from Lower are now at DIV 1 teams - He must have been the best of them?
Cant be a huge difference in training requirements between DIV 1 and DIV 2 sides I would have thought?
DIV 2 at Panton Hill seems a waste

Funnily enough not everyone aspires to play D1 or higher level footballer. Some just enjoy playing with mates wherever that may be.

Could easily play VFL if he wanted to.

He wasn't going to play this season but then was talked into playing at PH by mates.

While he is more than capable, he doesn't have the desire to play at the highest level he possibly could, playing VFL is overrated, why travel around the state, paid peanuts & the time commitments when you can play local, be paid good money & train twice a week.

4 out of 5 missing on Thomastown, damn they are hard to get a read on

Winner of the round: Panton Hill who jumped onto the top 5 for the first time this season and are playing some great footy. Sets up a mouth watering clash with Sth Morang at home after the break

Loser of the round: Thomastown who kicked themselves out of their game against St Marys and now fall to 7th with Diamond Creek after the break to finish off first half of the season. Drop that game and results of other games in round nine they could find themselves 6 points behind 5th spot
