NGA - A complete rort

NGA is basically just modern day zones.

Instead of being born nearby to a club, it's your parent(s) being born a long way from a club.

Makes no sense in the age of a national draft.

Actually it makes no sense at all. In any age...

It's basically a way to appease those unwilling to let go of the old-time "local footy club" "develop your own" idea.

Its clearly been brought in to temper the advantage of the Northern academies and in the process it’s destroyed the fairest medium for equalisation.

If the Lions really wanted him, couldn't they have chosen to take him as a Father/Son selection, or just bid enough as a regular selection?

Lions also passed on some of their own Academy talent this year, so perhaps they just don't see much in these players.

As I understand it Johnno said said no to a father/son listing.

Eh, Lions lost the son of Chris Johnson because of the NGA, wonder how long until a club loses a bigger named son because of an NGA deal.

Ah well.
Nope.

Ah well.

Port are losing Darryl borlase's son to the crows NGA as he was born in Egypt... played 246 games for port but the AFL doesnt count pre season or state games so hes ineligable for f/son.

Next year is a perfect example of how messy the NGA has made the draft. Its been turned into an absolute circus and defeats the purpose of having a draft order.
