Just heard on channel 7 news that the AFC have spoken with Nick Salter and asked him to apply for the National draft.

I know there has been a bit of talk about him on bf, but he is 19 yrs old, 189cm and 90kg. He plays up forward for WWT and gave Andrew McIntyre a bath in the SANFL prelim final.

I think this woiuld be a good move if we can get him for a 3rd or 4th pick.

For those that know more about him can you generate some discussion?

Looks and plays a lot taller than 189cm.

Should get picked up by someone. Better prospect than Havelberg in my opinion who is very similar in height and play.

thats good news and lets hope they get him coz he is pure quality. imo if he goes later than the second round it will be purely out of ignorance.

from what ive seen of him he's got a nice accurate and long kick, he's a really smart footballer with good speed and second efforts as evidenced by chasing down the ever tricky and agile ben hart. also knows how to lead properly too.

i dont see much wrong in his game at all other than he could do with a bit more muscle but hey that goes for most young players.

Hamill was similar body shape and at 185cm played a lot taller that his statistics indicated ......arm length has to be factored in as well.

IMO a good prospect worth serious consideration as a third rounder

Yup.

We need more players at Norwood, because everyone we send/recruit from there seems to develop. :p

Do you want to discuss this seriously? If you do please tell me one, just one WWT player that has been anything more than an honest toiler for us?

That depends on your definition of 'honest toiler'.

Id say in recent times theyve done a pretty good job with the young middies we've sent them though. Vince and Knights look to be coming along fine.

Meanwhile, Meesen and Pfeiffer continue along with 'whos that guy?' status.

Um Knights was not recruited from WWT, he played all his junior football in Victoria, likewise Meesen so they do not count, Vince has done nothing in any of his AFL games to justify the hype.

I know Knights and Meese werent SA lads, thats why i said 'times theyve done a pretty good job with the young middies we've sent them'.

Its obvious that all SANFL clubs are not equal, ideally youd rather send them to some clubs than others. Id rather have youngsters playing well at WWT, playing finals football, than than some of the other environments around the SANFL, where players seem to stagnate.

As for Vince... atleast hes played AFL games. :thumbsu:

Hetschel and Burton off the top off my head. Bock is another one who is a gun CHB.

No doubt we have been WWT happy in our recruiting but we have also had some good results by drafting WWT players.

Come to think of it, thats a very good point :thumbsu:

I'll give you the first two, Bock has still got to prove gun status. By the way this isn't an anti WWT rant, it just makes me laugh a bit when people are screaming out for us to change our recruitment methods that people still harp on about the same thing every year. This time last year it was another WWT tallish player everyone was going on about who never got picked by anyone. Just want to make sure our focus is more broader than one team.

And you make a fair point. People get carried away with their SANFL teams and believe that any SANFL gun from their team is a can't miss AFL prospect.

I think over the years we have drafted a number of good footballers from SANFL but we also had some forgetable ones. Overall, IMHO, I think we have been favouring WWT a bit too much.
