I'm holding fire until our Round 2 selections when Cameron and Knight are available.

Historically this sort of D-Day selection decision has been spared by a timely suspension or injury. Touch wood.

Milera and McGovern will drop out for Knight and Cameron next week imo.
Hoping for both youngsters to put in massive performance.
You can tell it's not going to take long at all for Milera to get used to AFL pace, his poise with the ball is incredible.
Anyone see his f50 pass to Jacobs against WCE amongst like 5 players?

Hopefully we put the most talented players on the park. I'm not convinced this has occurred this week.

Not playing Hartigan but embracing Mackay and VB suggests to me that we're going nowhere.

It's a culture and it remains to this day.

Seems overly pessimistic mate. The McGovern and Milera picks flag some change in my opinion.
I'm not even sure what role McGoven is playing? I would have expected another mid with the rotations capped, but they've put some faith in him.

I dont see that we have enough data yet to make a call on the Mackay selection. If we're looking at 3 main run & carry roles on the wings and HB, plus maybe a 4th at HF then we have a lot of guys underdone or out. We dont know where he's seen in that list:
Smith
Seedsman
Atkins
Hampton - out
Menzel - fitness?
Cameron - fitness?
Knight - fitness?

Mackay?

Leaving out Hartigan is putting a lot of faith in Lever - again, not the conservative mindset of the past.

VB is the one i have the most trouble with, but i'm wondering if the plan is to play him as a tagger/defender? Pyke was a run with guy himself back in the day, so might put some more stock in it than Walsh did. If that is the case, do we have a better option? Maybe (probably?), but not sure who else you'd look at. CEY could be tried maybe? Luke Brown would be interesting to try, but then who takes the lock down defender spot?

I wouldn't be so quick to drop Milera for Cameron. Personally I think Milera will eventually be twice the player that Cameron will be, hopefully we can find a role for all three in our side.

If I was Pyke I'd be getting as many AFL games into Milera this season as I could.

The decision to leave out Hartigan is an interesting one.

I just hope that with Brown, Waite and Petrie in their forward line time that we're not caught short back there. I am guessing that Cheney will play on Waite, but would have felt more conformable playing the three talls.

a new coach has to take things slow. there will be nothing worst than if he makes huge changes and gets the players off side.
Rather than completely alienate mackay and VB, i feel he will slowly filter these two players out.

We must remember these are two experienced payers with (i am assuming) strong ties to the playing group. dealing with these two players harshly may be a recipe for disaster

I reckon they will miss more games than they play this year

We were saying (hoping) that this time last year too. What we saw last season was that it doesn't matter how poorly they play or how lowly they fare in the B&F, we will pick them regardless.

Even when performance finally demanded we could ignore them no longer and dropped them, they both returned within weeks.

If their B&F results were solid which showed they were filling a team-first, important to structure, crucial leadership role - and performing it well - then you could admit, Ok, there's something there that us fans in the cheap seats aren't seeing.

What I see is the same "Imagine what we'd look like without them?!" young/old player panic that we saw in 2010/11.

VB and Makay have been fine over the NAB challenge and by all reports have had a great pre-season, they have earned their spot in the side for round 1. They are not in the side at the expense of Hartigan, they are in the side at the expense of Knight and Hampton if he was fit. Hartigan is out of the side for Cheney and this is why Cheney is in the side

I have a feeling it was this game that made them go after a defender of Cheney's size. I remember feeling like we were lucky he only kicked 4.

I have a few Pear mates and we generally sledge each others teams in good nature. They have all been in unison that we need to play Milera every game we can, it isn't just Crows blinkers, everyone notices what a star this kid is. If we are giving anything near a gold pass for players, let us change the previous mantra and give them to genuine talent to get them close to the 50 game mark. Skillful, elite disposal, quick, can see through traffic, those aren't the attributes I want to see playing in the SANFL, he can learn on the job

Hang on Cheney is in for Ziebel? Who goes to the third North tall?

We dont know how both VB and Mookay present themselfs at training. Maybe when you combine training, NAB games with injuries then they get a game.
Maybe its leadership from VB thats needed.
Hartigan is more of an issue. Cheeny has failed when put on big forwards and North has some of the biggest. This might have been a tactical error, but time will tell.
Im just happy to see Milera, the Crouch bros in the team.

I'm all for playing Milera every game however the coaching panel probably less so.
He was named on the bench ahead of Mackay ;(.

How predictable are we for everyone to know deep down that we were always selecting vb and mackay.
I love the selections of mcgovern and milera but both deserved their spots from nab cup performances especially milera.
Im holding judgement on pyke and his selection criteria until rd 3. Both WILL NOT be in our next premiership 22. While not 'gifting' games to youngsters surely you pump as many games as you can into players you believe have what it takes to be in your best side. I just dont see what vb and mackay offer that others dont.
Out of all this Jarryd Lyons is the most hard done by. He has had a very good pre season and most thought he was in. If he doesnt get regular games under pyke i can see him ending up like kerridge and being traded at the end of the season.

I thought with games starting these pointless and repetitive threads might stop, how naive of me.

Go and get drunk and enjoy Easter 1970crow, save yourself.

Nah, just less of threads titled 'No change' would be nice
