According to the radio news Palmer didn't travel with the team
HYoung midfielder Rhys Palmer and ex-Essendon premiership player Mark Johnson look likely to play their first games in Fremantle colours after travelling with the squad of 24.
Palmer impressed coaches during the pre-season, including assistant coach Dean Wallis.
“He’s actually put in a massive pre-season and he’s a quality kid,” Wallis said.
“He’ll add strength to our midfield, he’s got a huge motor and he’s a ball-winning magnet.
“(He) kicks goals, that’s what we want.
According to 6pr, Rhys will be playing for East Freo.

Can we just calm down a bit. OK, so Palmer might not play this week. He might not play next week either, but I'm sure we didn't draft him solely to play the first couple of rounds of the 2008 season. He'll be at the club for many many years, there's no need to rush him into the team - have some faith in Harvs, the rest of the coaching staff and selection committee.
FWIW, I was hoping he'd play too - I want to see the youngsters in the team, and he's also in my DT. But, as a tool once wrote on his abdomen, c'est la vie
