I laughed at first but then you see how it affected Mel Mc.

Not something she needed on the job.
There's that but it was pretty harmless. If I'm Gayle I'll give her a call and apologise if she's taken offence to it and leave it at that.

I don't like the Gayle bashing though. Sport lovers cry out for characters and as soon as one pops up they get whacked.

I still stick that on national TV, to a woman just doing her job, it was poor form.

In a bar or a nightclub, play on.

#Gayle interview: time, place, context not great but hardly offensive in itself, surely. #BBL5

From Ron Reed on Twitter. Sums it up very well. It's funny though. On Facebook, it's pro-Gayle. On Twitter, it's anti-Gayle.

Tex Walker is pro-Gayle. Dangerfield is anti-Gayle. Everyone has a side. No one is in the middle.

There's an interview of Maria Sharapova saying to a reporter that she was distracted by his good form. I don't mind that at all. Basically not what I've learnt, but had reaffirmed is that a woman can be flirty, a male cannot. Equality, hey?

This. Looking back, she immediately avoided eye contact. Cost himself MOTM as well, was clearly the guy but Ch10 not going to put him back on screen.

Mel is a professional, that was her place of work.

If Gayle wants to hit on her and be mercilessly shut down when she's not at work, he can do so.

Doing so on national television was completely unfair. She handled it extremely well, but it was immediately obvious that she felt humiliated.

Men objectify women in the workplace constantly, and it both humiliates them and limits their opportunities - don't throw out the equality card or tell them how to feel when we're not on a level playing field in the first place.

I think the main difference was the guy Maria was eyeing off seemed to enjoy it, Mel clearly didn't. That's a big enough deal to seperate the two imo. I have no issue with Chris saying what he did off air, it's the fact he said it on air and put her on the spot that i have issue with.

You dont think it goes the other way? How many male weather presenters are there these days?

You're right, in some instances it's unfairly weighted towards men, but don't think there aren't men on an unlevel playing field too.

So if Mel likes it, no-one has a drama. If the guy Sharapova talked to had a problem, everyone would be telling him to toughen up a bit.

There's a video doing the rounds tonight of Gayle being interviewed by a female reporter when playing the Thunder. He did the same thing to her, she just took it in her stride and no-one bats an eyelid. Because Mel looked awkward (I would too, Gayle was so corny) everyone blasts Gayle?

This is exactly like the Afl tribunal and sling tackles. Someone gets hurt and people get punished. No-one gets hurt and its play on.

Just me but I don't see what doing this whilst she's working or not working has to do with it other than Gayle looking like a legend/dil in front of more people. No-one has any issue with how Mel handled things. People will say she doesn't need that sort of thing at work, she probably doesn't need it outside of work either but it happens. If she likes him she'll chat, if she doesn't, she'll decline. She's no baby. She's a strong woman who doesn't need mollycoddling.

Just my take on it. I know I'll be the minority in this and most will take solace in that. I just think the world has gotten way too politically correct.

I will say that what Gayle said in the Carribean League, that was wrong, and really poor form. That's where I draw the line.

What'd he say in the Carribean League?

For mine, it's just the fact that she shouldn't be put in the situation in the first place. He really should know better. But the media is a snake. Some articles and promotions about Gayle's bachelor lifestyle and having a pole in his bedroom, which was relished in, but he will be lambasted (rightly) for this.

That Mel McLaughlin/Chris Gayle interview was embarrassing and cringeworthy. Felt sorry for McLaughlin

Can only roll my eyes at bogan meatheads like Tex Walker claiming "It's all a bit of fun!"

Yeah, being hit on on national TV when you're just trying to do your job is just a bit of harmless fun, dickhead.

Poor from from Gayle.

Mel looked pretty embarrassed and it must hurt trying to be a female in such a male dominated field and be objectified like that live on TV.

It's not fun and banter it's just tasteless. It's also not being too PC its just common decency.

Of course it's going to be a case by case basis. If the victim is offended, then it's wrong; if she says play on, then it's play on. Weird analogy i know, and apologies in advance but it's like sex, if it's consensual, then all good, if it isn't, its rape. It's all about how it is percieved from the reciever.

I reckon that when you make jokes at people's expense when you have an advantage over them then you've got a duty of care to make sure they don't mind it.

If Mel laughed and played along, then sweet. But that clearly wasn't the case so Gayle buggered up. He certainly shouldn't have gone on with it after she showed instant displeasure. That showed pretty faulty radar from him. Going on with it is when a clumsy teasing attempt can become harrassment. (Probably not in this case, but it can potentially become dangerous ground.)

Where I differ from some is I don't think Gayle should be strung up by his balls and that Ch 10 should be shut down immediately (not having a go at people on this forum - there was just some stupidly furious over-reacting on Twitter). I think that Gayle should offer her a private apology and everyone can move on. I don't think it was a big deal at all. Millions of equally poor calls are made daily.

I just think Gayle's gag was ill-advised in hindsight, and him going on with it was more ill-advised.
