I haven't seen much tv or news lately but last I saw Clinton was a fair way in front.

Yeah she came back a fair bit (Trump was leading) after Wikileaks found that the DNC basically rigged the primaries to make sure Sanders lost and she won.

While the president is key in international policy, who we elect to congress is actually more important domestically. Unfortunately we have been electing a lot of people who believe that the government can't do anything right and once they get elected they work very hard to prove that point. I currently see no signs of this trend slowing down a bit.

One could argue that they exceed expectations. One fears that Trump in particular may exceed everyone's expectations like expectations have never been exceeded before. It's the finger on the button that has people a little apprehensive. He makes Kim Jong Il look f***ing sane at times

I wish she was a moron. She's actually extremely shrewd and has found a way to turn a healthy profit off her time in politics by being a fantastic shill. Trump is a public buffoon but privately I think he's actually quite similar to Clinton, an arrogant shill who'll do anything for profit/power.
They say that citizens get the government they deserve but what did those poor yanks do to deserve this?

As far as the popular vote goes, Trump got an expected bump after the Republican convention which drew him close to even or a bit ahead depending on which poll you looked at but since the Democrat convention Clinton's expected bump has moved her as much as 10 points ahead. Again it depends on which poll you look at. However, when you consider the convoluted electoral college system we have then Clinton is currently miles ahead. The media will, for the most part, ignore this and highlight the numbers that make the race appear very close. It's good for the ratings.
