I'm not saying that is the same as Tredders, but to let him go because he didn't get vaxxed and then argue, "Well, we were going to let him go on performance..." I don't know; I'm not privy to the conversations he had with his employer about performance, but it seemed convenient.

The issue with Tredrea wasn't that he wouldn't get vaccinated, it was that he was loudly outspoken against the vaccine, which was bringing reputational damage upon Nine.

This is absolutely well worth the listen (also a podcast), he has some ****ing hilarious stories from his playing days (make sure you stay for the ‘Shit Pit’ story with Matt Jaensch) and I just like his vibe, very laid back!

That was great.

The more I think about the Tredrea thing the more I find it sad.

Person making a series of self-isolating decisions, doubling down on each one, and then finding solace in the only community that will still accept him.

It's sad when it happens to anyone, but particularly so when it happens to someone with such ability.

What do the Murdochs have to do with these sovereign citizen type stuff? Wouldn't have thought that's a mainstream media thing. A couple of people at my golf club got into this stuff. I can get behind their decision to not get vaccinated, but both of these people went the full lizard people, sovereign citizen, chem trails and other weird, weird stuff.
NewsCorp have been one of the biggest perpetrators of the news cycle we’re in now, bullshit stories, sensationalism, terrible reporting standards etc etc etc.
They have a huge part in the divisive nature or media now.

Think I have posted it on here somewhere before, running down the race between the bowls club and grandstand with the wire fence was like a scene out of One Flew Over The Cookoo Nest with their faces pushed up against the fence
I was at a Port game in the twilight of Clive Waterhouse’s career.
I’m in front of the bowls club, play is in the pocket in front of us. There’s a Port supporter slightly taller than me, I’m a start arse, and he’s got a busted nose and looks like he’s as sharp as a bowling ball. There’s a Sturt player, George Thring, and this bloke yells out
“You look like your mother slept with her brother!”
My mate and I look at each other and roll our eyes. Later in the game he says it again. In the third quarter Sturt kick ahead and we’ve got a solid lead, Port make a bit of a run, go deep inside 50 and Clive drops a sitter about 30 out. I yell out “time to give it away Clive, games gone past you!” And this bent nosed knuckledragger goes ape shit at me, tells me to shut up, f*** off etc etc.
I told him to watch the game and that he’s said worse. He wants to start a fight until someone steps in and intervenes.
Sturt kicks a couple more goals and the f***er never returns after 3/4 time.
Just a sample of a typical Alberton experience.

I’m sure all supporters of other clubs would have similar stories from Alberton

They have a huge part in the divisive nature or media now.

Not to mention, their decades-long attacks on the notion of science, academia, and peer-reviewed research as a whole.

They have created the environment in which idiots on the internet think they know more than lifelong experts in any given field, or failing that, that those experts are all bought and paid for by nefarious actors.

Legit question though, how come our resident billionaire sponsor in Thomas Farms aren't buying us a premiership just like Geelong manages? Tight on the purse strings?
My hubby used to work for T&R Pastoral (now Thomas Farms) in Lobethal as a maintenance fitter 18 years ago and from what he said back then, they were incredibly tight and stingy.

I doubt too much has changed. I doubt they care anywhere near as much about the AFC as they do about their own bottom dollar and their own brand.

The difference, it seems, between Geelong and other clubs is that their corporate backers genuinely care about the welfare of the club, and see it more than just an opportunity to advertise.

What is the result? Well, the owner of Cotton On seems to involve himself more than what would be a normal CEO of a company that sponsors a club because he first and foremost is a huge fan.

Who do we have? Is Darren Thomas as passionate about the Adelaide Crows as Nigel Austin is about the Geelong Cats?

Do we have a Frank Costa and a city council mayor who is the father-in-law of a South Aussie star we want to poach?

Geelong's success is a culmination of a lot of factors; luck, incredibly good management on and off the field, and wealthy passionate supporters who also happen to sponsor the club.

Which Hinkley stance do you agree with? The one he publicly campaigned on, or the one he switched to the instant he got elected?

He is furfilling his role on the board in looking after the best interests of the club, which is supporting their decision to keep Ken as the coach. He can't have it both ways, he'd rather be on the board than pot Ken in the media.

Can't help but drive by people opposed to the covid jab, who ended up being right. This is coming from the same person who thought Chayce Jones would be AA not unsurprising from you.

Hey, hey, hey.... Let's keep footy out of this. Stay on topic please.

And then as a result you get numpties that are scared of wind turbines, who also massively overrate players like Lachlan Murphy and Ned McHenry.
