One thing that never sat well with me was how meek and mild reporters have historically been in the post-match press conferences, basically letting the coach run roughshod over them, rarely sticking up for themselves.

Who could forget some of Mick Malthouse‘s press conferences? Just once I wanted a journo to say to him: “I’ll ask the questions Mick, you just focus on answering them.”

I also think people are pretty tired of “the players’ mental health” line that these coaches keep trotting out.

All of the AFL coaches, and the majority of the players, are multimillionaires. They’ve sacrificed very little over the last two years compared to the majority of Australians.

Time to shut the **** up and play football.

And if you’re that worried about people’s mental health, maybe refrain from attempting to humiliate someone on national tv who you could probably buy and sell ten times over.

I didn't know what the Lachie Hunter story was, but seeing how Bevo went off about it with "gutter journalism" and "mental health", undermining the club because Melbourne supporter and all that, I thought there must be at least something going on to spark that sort of reaction.

Looked it up. Nothing. Standard pre-game selection story, with a bit of (apparently) inside info. I'm genuinely not understanding Bevo's outburst.

He is right... but not on this particular matter. Kick up a stink when there's something worthwhile complaining about. But this wasn't it.

Yep. And not only the wrong target, but the wrong approach. Best approach when you want to make a point about some trashy / inaccurate piece of journalism is - IMO - cold, hard rebuttal and not an abusive rant. Like most things in life, I guess.

Morris was RIGHT. Journalists should report newsworthy stories, and team selection is newsworthy.

Bevo somehow made Morris the hero in this story, which is almost unbelievable.

Yeah nothing better than seeing a scummy journo get taken down a peg, but this wasn't the way/time to do it. Would've loved nothing more than for them to both end up looking terrible but he really didn't have much ammo. Just classic Bevo being a petulant little child when something didn't go his way again.

It's hard because it's like Port V Geelong in this instance. It's great seeing both teams lose but unfortunately that means the other one has to win.

I agree it was great seeing a journo being called out, but to go hammer and tongs over such an unimportant issue had the opposite effect. If it was Nicksy and he got stuck into Tom over his completely false reporting of Matt Crouch's contract talks, then fair play. If he'd reported that Bont was unhappy with the club or something like that which was false then sure.

But lineup leaks? That ended up being accurate? There's no Michael Talia around any more so he has to take out his shortcomings and his club's poor culture on someone else. Don't get me wrong, I hate these bottom feeders as much as anyone. But you have to pick your shots with them. Now when he does actually have something worth complaining about it'll just be "Ahh Bevo just has a grudge."

That was embarrassing for the AFL last night.. a blight on the game and the organisation. And regardless of who is at fault the AFL has to accept that something needs to change or else other coaches could simply start being hostile to these media turds and calling them out on live TV..

all the AFL’s inaction in failing to pull these pieces of media excretement into line and instead letting them get out of control ended up coming to a head on live TV infront of the nation. Terrible outcome really.

Sure, you might say “oh, but Morris was right” and he may have been in this case but its pretty ****n clear that last night wasnt caused by morris reporting of the past couple of days.. it looks clear now that this has been simmering away for months now.. and theres most definitely more going on than we are all privy to..

You miss the point. Everyone is happy for journo's to be called out when the situation arises. This just wasn't one of those situations. Bevo behaved like an unhinged lunatic over something ridiculous. IF Morris had made up shit about the club or players, he'd be fully justified. The fact remains, this wasn't one of those cases.

Roo had some extra info this morning on Triple M, and sounds like it all stems back to pre Grand Final when Morris ran first with the fact that Ryan Gardner had been dropped for the GF. Apparently Bevo rang Morris after the GF and gave him a massive serve.

So for Morris to do the same exact thing on Hunter the very next game, against the very same opponents, who Morris apparently supports ... I am starting to understand why Beveridge reacted the way he did.

That he referred to Sam Edmund and Riley Beveridge and how they would check in on the club before reporting (not asking for permission, just to say I know this and I'm running with it) vs Morris approach of just tweeting and broadcasting it. It is poor form by Morris.
