That was embarrassing for the AFL last night.. a blight on the game and the organisation. And regardless of who is at fault the AFL has to accept that something needs to change or else other coaches could simply start being hostile to these media turds and calling them out on live TV..

I doubt it. Bevo was comprehensively beaten in the court of public opinion.

I get what you’re saying about the football media, but that makes Beveridge’s actions worse, because he’s given them a massive free kick here.

There’s a time, a place, and a way to deal with the media — but that wasn’t it.

Roo had some extra info this morning on Triple M, and sounds like it all stems back to pre Grand Final when Morris ran first with the fact that Ryan Gardner had been dropped for the GF. Apparently Bevo rang Morris after the GF and gave him a massive serve.

So for Morris to do the same exact thing on Hunter the very next game, against the very same opponents, who Morris apparently supports ... I am starting to understand why Beveridge reacted the way he did.

That he referred to Sam Edmund and Riley Beveridge and how they would check in on the club before reporting (not asking for permission, just to say I know this and I'm running with it) vs Morris approach of just tweeting and broadcasting it. It is poor form by Morris.

Exactly right I encourage people to watch the interview again: Western Bulldogs press conference | Fox Sports Videos

Beveridge never says Morris' information was wrong.
Beveridge admits they need to do something about how this info is getting out.

It's from there Beveridge accuses Morris of bias due to the fact his team are playing the team he supports.

Disappointing people are falling for the media line of "but the journo was right", that was never the issue raised.

I mean rucci and kornes have been doing it for years.

Bevo always looks idiotic..

But hopefully in doing what he did last night we can maybe look forward to the AFL panicking and finally being forced to do something about this issue…

all the AFL’s inaction in failing to pull these pieces of media excretement into line and instead letting them get out of control ended up coming to a head on live TV infront of the nation. Terrible outcome really.

Sure, you might say “oh, but Browne was right” and he may have been in this case but its pretty fu**n clear that last night wasnt caused by browne’s reporting of the past couple of days.. it looks clear now that this has been simmering away for months now.. and theres most definitely more going on than we are all privy to..
I disagree the AFL needs to take action. They have too much control over the media and need to take less action, not more.

Because the media is controlled through the accreditation process, reporters are uncomfortable reporting real stories and instead spend the majority of their focus on inane garbage. They blow stuff that doesn't deserve it way out of proportion because any genuine criticism isn't tolerated.

If the media was allowed to report on genuine league issues fairly - think the poor standard of umpiring - then the quality of reporting would improve and the inane pointless crap would die away.

The fact Bevo had a massive sook over a relatively minor bit of factual reporting shows how soft the industry has gotten towards being challenged. Imagine if this was a serious story being broken and Bevo was being challenged at a presser. He would have murdered the journo on the spot

Gillion stood outside AFL house and held a presser about 5 years ago now and clearly stated that media accreditations would be revoked from any journalists that made crap up and resorted to gutter journalism when reporting on the AFL.

Another empty threat..

And where are we all these years later?.. the AFL media landscape is even worse now…

If two of these accredited “journo’s” can be taken to court and it was ruled in a court of law that their reporting was based on massive fabrications and the AFL still doesnt take their accreditations off them.. then what will it take?

In not taking Caro and Sams accreditations off them what message does that send?.. just keep doing what youre doing ladies and gentleman its all good we love your baseless nonsense..

And its a bit of a stretch saying..

“If the media was allowed to report on genuine league issues fairly - think the poor standard of umpiring - then the quality of reporting would improve and the inane pointless crap would die away.”

Really?.. you cannot honestly believe that these gossip mongerers like caro, sam, morris, kane, browne etc etc would all of a suddenly start doing some real reporting with integrity, balance and rigourous research if “they were allowed to”!..

Pfft… not a chance.. gutter gossip gotcha “scoops” and “exclusives” and loaded lies and bullshit cooked up against the clubs they hate is all these lowlife turds know.. doing decent journalism wouldnt be anything that interests these flogs.. too much hard work involved in that..

They wouldn't. But no one would pay any attention to them when real reporters are covering bigger, juicier issues and taking clubs to task.

As to your other points, it was always an empty threat to revoke accreditation on making up stuff. The AFL doesn't care if reporters make up inane garbage to fill time. They DO care if they accurately report on issues damaging to the AFL, like the Essendon drug saga, which the AFL desperately manipulated and tried to sweep under the rug (in cahoots with significant parts of the media)

So... Morris is reporting on a game where only two teams are involved, what else is he supposed to do, NOT report it? I'm just not sure how the information (which was accurate and not made up) - leaked BY the Bulldogs and reported by Morris - could have this "massive disruptive effect on the Club" on the eve of the Grand Final or Round 1? It's just completely bizarre! He's gone completely bananas.

Speaking on this point specifically, the Crows camp story is exactly what happens when AFL reporters are too scared of tackling bigger issues.

This was a relatively minor incident, but because of the vacuum of bigger stories, it suddenly became one of the biggest stories of the year. That's what the AFL wants. They want small stories to fill up all the space (ideally targeted at the clubs) so that no one ever examines the AFL or critically analyses anything. It's all stuff like "a few players were upset in the off season"

Now imagine if instead of the media talking about the Crows camp for the last four years, they explored why AFL fans consistently say umpiring is the biggest issue in the AFL year after year in the AFL's own surveys. Or if they looked into clubs that people suspect of salary cap cheating, like Geelong and previously Collingwood. Where was the full investigation and breakdown of why Collingwood needed to ditch several players over alleged (or potential) cap breaches?

What about the allegations surrounding ex-CEO Andrew Demetriou and money laundering/other behaviour at Crown Resorts? And possibly a full investigation into his dealings at the AFL? What about Geelong suspiciously being fined for salary cap cheating with no explanation? What about the umpiring in the 2016 grand final? What about the extremely dodgy deal to extend the MCG grand final contract? What about an exploration of why and how an AFL tribunal acquitted Essendon of drug cheating only for them to be banned by WADA?

There are real stories there. Plenty of them. The AFL would never let those stories be told. Instead they want a minor off-season camp issue to dominate the news.

I think that's a pretty flimsy justification for what was a major abusive outburst. Two (accurate) reports on team selection, without "checking in with the club", by a reporter who happens to be a Melbourne supporter (So what? In what way did those reports improve Melbourne's chances in those games?)... Maybe Bevo doesn't have a lot of time for Morris, that's his right. I'm sure there are other coaches who have less-than-flattering opinions of some other journos. But that doesn't justify that press conference.

how Ironic:

And she would have said that with a straight face as well.

Interesting from that article: Port Adelaide great Kane Cornes said he and Damian Barrett were rejected access to the Bulldogs last year.

Looks like the Croc of shit have their next target.

The Victorian Footy Mafia will go hard for him no doubt.

how Ironic:

Yep.. because in Caro’s eyes she and her cohort of vile little toadies can do no wrong..

How dare anyone challenge their grubby “journalist” tactics…

And what a ****head to suggest Bevo isnt fit to coach…

He may be a dick.. but he can clearly coach. He just refuses to put up with garbage from parasites like you Caro..

how Ironic:

Everyone quoted in that article made reasonable comments - except Caro went to the next level and talked about "unravelling", "he needs help", "not coping" and "I don't think he's equipped to be looking after the futures of 30 young men". That's going too far - I mean, some of us numpties in the stands may well wonder what's going on in Bevo's head sometimes, but - IMO anyway - a journo's job is to report / comment on people's words/actions and how appropriate / inappropriate they are, not to pass comment on what they think might be the state of the person's mental health.

Buckley's comments were much more appropriate / on the mark.

Yeah maybe, but on the other hand it's legitimate comment to compare the attitude of the GF clubs and in particular the Bulldogs. Was it a bit of a sooky la-la on Kornes' part? Maybe, but also a legitimate comment.

Yep it's begun:

The last bit where he said Bulldogs should sort it out before the AFL get a chance too

What how we stripped our own draft picks due to the salary breach because we didn't declare it correctly even though it was still under the cap and the then the AFL added another year worth of sanctions bit then Essendon's who team are on drugs and get less draft sanctions than us?

Clubs should never volunteer to give itself some punishment before the AFL does. Hell there was talk of draft penalties when we had more than 10 blokes kick a footy around.

I would love the AFL to kick the Bulldogs where it hurts and say Bevo bought the game into disrepute and stripped them of their first pick, he'll they got two top 5 picks for free the last two years anyway (if Dunkley at years end leaves they'd probably get one anyway)

It's outrageous. I feel for the journo's here.

This fine should be double what Caro and McLure were fined. Triple even. Don't hold back.

Oh dear… someone has leaked a recording of our dearest Tom Morris talking about one of his female colleagues without knowing he’s being recorded..

Its just been put up in the thread on the beverage meltdown on the main board..

If it is genuine.. Tom might be in a spot of bother..

Let's say in the lead up to the GF, Bulldogs decided that Gardner would be dropped. They told him which was devastating. He took a few days, felt ashamed, like a loser. His dream taken away.

The Bulldogs felt like shit, but they had to make a call.

They gave him time. Support.

His parents, girlfriend, family were all excited to see him in a GF. Dogs knew they would be just as hurt, and had a careful plan to manage that, while still being able to focus on the big game.

Then someone dickhead leaked to Morris, who then tweeted it and followed with the lead story minutes later.

Then Gardner starts getting calls from mum & dad. "What the hell's going on, son?" Dogs are furious. They had a plan, and Morris ****ed it up. If he'd called, they'd say "yes, but give us 24 hours to deal with internally. Then you can have it". But they didn't get an opportunity.

Post-GF, Bevo rings Morris and says what happened above is pretty shit. Don't do it again you little turd.

Very next game. Very next opponent. Same exact ****ing thing.

Alright, guess we know Mark Stevens' BF account.

EDIT: Okay I posted this as a joke before actually listening to that. Yeah, if that's real he's completely ****ed. Like, job on the line ****ed.
