Fixing the umpiring wouldn't even be that hard of a task. It would just require the AFL prioritising it.

1) Make AFL level umpiring a full time position, with the responsibilities and scrutiny of that role

2) Review and simplify the rules to remove grey areas and interpretations

3) Improve the match review system by introducing precedent
100%

Simplify the rules. Remove interpretation as much as possible.

I came here to say this.

Can’t move on the mark, can’t wave your arms, can‘t bump, can’t say no to the vax, two weeks to slow the spread, no singing, no dancing, no vertical consumption…

Okay…okay… I went off track a little bit there.

Point is, AFL’s just a sad reflection of the state of the country. More rules in this nanny state than a ******* public pool.

And if you think any of it is getting better after Gillon leaves, you’re deluded.
Sad isn't it what this once great game is coming too about the only decent new rule they've brought in that's made the game better is the head high contact rule and dangerous tackle rule that goes with it. Perhaps the chopping of the arms in a marking contest a fair while ago too is a pretty good improvement.

If they got rid of the players there'd be no umpire dissent, no congestion, no concussion. Would solve everything
Probably still find a way to have an player umpire outfit clash even with no players.

What's the alternate here though? What should frost do?
Not push Hawkins away from contesting the mark with another player when you have no intention of going for the ball yourself?

The only probably legal thing you can do is to stand in front of them and pretend that you're also jumping for the ball.

It's a free kick and so it should be.

I wouldn’t call that a push though.
Hawkins is doing the exact thing frost is before he decides to dive.

From the Port board….

“Once he's gone, we should play our first game after his departure in the prison bars, to celebrate the start of a new era”…..

I don’t understand how dreaming of wearing the jumper of your reserves team would define a new era, but anyway…

Personally, I find it endearing that after all this time they still think its their decision whether or not they wear the prison bars.

So you can't shake your hands after a decision goes against you or while you are on the mark...

...but carrying on like a complete w***er after a non-decision is okay?

Balta in particular cracked the sooks on a number of occasions on Saturday.

What I don’t get is how not all umpires were told of this crackdown before the weekend, did some skip training last week?

He is except he's trying to go for the ball. Frost isn't. That's the difference.

I didn't realise blocking was so contentious.
what?
For a start Hawkins has a better position than frost, they are doing the same thing except, hawkins has his forearm on frosts face and hawkins wildly exaggerates contact.

They’ll start paying behind-the-play free kicks for that too, so be careful what you wish for.

The next one will be 50 metre penalties for dirty looks, or just generally hurting the umpires feelings.

Look, the idea that a grown man on a football field can’t wave his arms after some weasel umpire makes a deluded decision, is obviously bullshit. And if you’re not saying this is bullshit, you are unhinged.

The good news is there’s probably a job for you at the AFLPA. Because those softcocks won’t say a thing about this either.

What is even the point of the AFLPA? What do they actually do, other than agree with the AFL about everything?

How long until they start penalising the team when their home supporters boo?

Soon well have to trick them and boo at our own free kicks to get a 50.

One of the Port posters claimed "once we get rid of Hinkley, we're firmly back in the premiership picture"

Clearly they have learned nothing from this year

Even if they get rid of Ken the fact remains that their squad isn't anywhere near where they think it is and their senior players are cooked.

Their biggest issue has been obvious for a while, they have a massive talent gulf in terms of middle aged players because they spent a large part of the mid 2010s trading away a lot of their first rounders.

This year has proven the their next tier of players ie Willem Drew, Dan Houston and Karl Amon (who had one fluke season) are massively overrated and nothing but B graders who do not have a massive influence over games. Throw in other guys like Mayes, Bonner, Farrell etc and their list is not going to be winning a flag anytime soon.

There's no premiership awaiting the next coach, instead they're going to have to do a massive clean out and then try and build a premiership side via the draft around Butters, Rozee but that's most probably about 5-6 years away.
They are us in 2018

We must be watching something different. Frost has 100% intention of not letting Hawkins get to that contest (which he himself has no intention of making). That's the free kick. It doesn't matter if Hawkins does or does not make the contest.

Imagine a defender rolling their eyes and the umpire gives a 50m penalty.

Remember the scene from Life of Brian when the emperor is mentioning his friend Biggus Dickus and the soldiers are screwing up their faces trying not to burst out laughing?

I can just see players on the mark doing the same thing, biting their tongue, contorting their faces trying to not let any negative emotion come out😄

Could be fun to watch! 😛

I’m not sure how you say he’s got no intention, his eyes are on the ball. He’s pushing back legally on Hawkins pushing him in the face.
The only frees I can see there are high on frost and (staging if there was a free for that)
Happy to agree to disagree on this one.
