I would be very surprised if the top 6 from that draft weren’t the top 6 in any order on most, if not all club boards.

Pretty clear from our drafting that Jagga wasn’t what we were after although Beau Addinsall’s game style is not too dissimilar and it looked like someone had died when we missed out on him.
Yeah but addinsall went at what, pick 19? Big difference to getting the same output from pick 3.

He had a few mare's early on but improved over his career, people maybe remembering the 2010 era west coast skill level

Tbh I more noticed it more in his later days, he was awesome in 2012.

Show us your prompt.

I'd also believe the forwards, who all said Masten was their favourite to lead to, over Grok...

Surely they would say Shuey over Masten for kicking inside 50, I know publicly JK said LeCras was his favourite player to lead too.

He’s a small metres gained mid because in juniors he’s primarily been clearance winner and extractor, puts a team mate into space and makes excellent decisions.

At AFL level I’d expect him to start more outside and work his way to the inside. I suspect the only major concern with him is if he can make that transition due to his size. I wouldn’t compare him to Gaff at all who was more a link up player with a huge tank and zero inside game.

By the same token surely only Carlton supporters are comparing him to Nick Daicos
Anyone who has no idea, who only listens to the media pump Jagga up will also think hes the next Nick Daicos tbf

Both players were very good kicking to leading forwards.

Just don't ask Masten to kick a set shot.

They were even saying it last night on Fox, comparing his first game disposals and how he should play the same role Nick did in his first season.

He’ll take some time to get used to the speed of the game, when he does and doesn’t have time much like Lindsay for us but the footy IQ is there.

These outside player comparisons are off the mark, he’s got an incredible inside game it’s just whether it can translate in the modern game with his small size.
It won't translate to the modern game - I think peak Masden is a great comparison. Can find the ball and kick inside 50 well.

They already released a graphic comparing their first games as well. All over it.

Ok, don’t get cranky at me because I’m only relaying the information

The AFL distribution to clubs for 2025

IMG_7408.webp

Rather than alphabetically, this the below is from highest to lowest (in $’000s):

37,698 - Gold Coast
36,838 - GWS
32,747 - Brisbane
29,225 - St Kilda
29,047 - North Melbourne
26,136 - Western Bulldogs
25,992 - Richmond
25,869 - Sydney
25,245 - Melbourne
24,294 - Port Adelaide
23,738 - Hawthorn
23,615 - Collingwood
22,372 - Geelong
22,322 - Essendon
22,117 - Adelaide
21,373 - Carlton
20,928 - Fremantle
18,542 - West Coast

By State:

249,065 - Victoria (Ave $24,906.5)
70,445 - Queensland (Ave $35,222.5)
62,707 - NSW (Ave $31,353.5)
46,411 - SA (Ave $23,205,5)
39,470 - WA (Ave $19,735.0)

468,098 - Total (Ave $26,005.4)

Random thoughts/notes:

1) The figures don’t take into account the dividend paid by the WA clubs to the WAFC to support football in this state. Something no other clubs do
2) West Coast receive $2,386,000 less than the next lowest club (Fremantle)
3) Combined, the two WA clubs received just $1,772,000 than Gold Coast and $2,632,000 than GWS
4) We’re told that the northern clubs “fund” their own academies
5) One of the arguments against West Coast receiving draft assistance was our financial strength - imagine the position we’d be in if we received the same distribution as Victorian clubs
6) Why do North Melbourne and St Kilda exist
7) The distributions, among other things, are said to include travel subsidies. When you consider, the travel costs of the two WA clubs would be significantly higher than all other 16 clubs, the shortfall in funding is even more bemusing

I posted earlier (yesterday) about the lack of funding for WA football and how that reflects in our talent development pathways

The distribution to the northern clubs, in part, rightly reflects the role they play in promoting the code in their respective states and in talent development. Mind you, those clubs are virtually the exclusive beneficiaries of that development

Victorian clubs aren’t required to find junior development as that comes under the auspices of the AFL primarily via the Coates League

I don’t know enough about SA football to have an informed opinion on what happens there, but the gap between and most of the Victorian clubs is minimal - especially when they don’t pay dividends to the SANFL as far as I know

The extent to which WA football is taken for granted by the AFL is simply a joke

Why do North Melbourne and St Kilda exist

The AFL is basically just a glorified jobs program to artificially maintain having chronically underperforming Melbourne based clubs

We may as well tax the league and fund those two clubs via the Department of Industry, Science and Resources

Everyone spends time arguing over where the 20th team should be, it makes far more sense to cull one of these two and take it back to 18.
