I struggle to understand why he'd want to leave GWS when they're on the cusp of being a powerhouse in the competition

Why he'd want to go to a club that's rebuilding like Freo makes no sense

Word going around preseason was that good ol Bennell was caught in the passenger side of a stolen car, tho not sure it's something you miss a whole season for.

That's a disappointing insinuation, regardless of Bennell's previous issues. I would think a guy missing a whole season after several soft tissue injuries while in his early 20s is completely understandable. If they don't fix it, he's stuffed.

Agreed. He is best 22 as well. Anyone out injured that is likely to come back and displace him? The bloke might genuinely miss his mates and family but he has 40 new mates over there in a successful team on the cusp of a dynasty. It'll take a chunk of coin to get him home. Their mids would be on a packet!

Yep. Although, I don't think I've actually seen anything that has come out from him (or his managenent). Not to say it couldn't be something started by his managenent to test waters given he has had a very good year. If not a trade for some extra coin then a possible contract renegotiation?

I'm with you, I don't see why a player would choose to leave a team on the cusp of success for one that looks destined for mediocrity. But then you have guys like Prestia doing exactly that.
