Of that list above, Strauss is one who is a bit of a 'what if' for me. He's been smashed- absolutely smashed- with injuries.

I like what little I've seen of him, but he's just had any continuity in his football.

Strauss, and Bail, and Grimes and well, yeah... you get the point?

They continually get smashed from pillar to post .

is basically there, and it is the structure that can be hardest to get right and it certainly takes the longest to develop.

Add in another couple of young gun mids this draft and protect them, along with all the other boys, with nuggets like Magner, hopefully Tapscott can get his act together, and whoever else the second tier comps offer up and there is more than enough there to chase 8-10 wins as soon as next year.

Depth will be an issue but they have to start somewhere and it is not like there isn't anyone else on their list that can play.

I've suggested that for a few months now that if they could add in a few mature aged guns they would be more competitive than what they are dishing up now.

B: C.Garland - J.Frawley - ??
HB: J. Grimes - T.McDonald - J.Watts
C Ben Ross - J.Viney - George Hampson
HF: J.Howe - C.Dawes - J.Hogan
F: C.Silvia - M.Clark - Dayle Garlett
R: M.Gawn - N.Jones - Adam Cockie
I/C: J.Toumpas - J.Trengove - S.Blease

They look marginally better with a few mature aged guys.

I would add Dean Terlich Yoda_, he's been a good defender so far this year for the dees. They also need somebody like Sammy Lonergan, just to bash and crash in the middle

Good call, Eth. Terlich isn't the most polished, but he's been reasonably solid and dependable. Apart from Jones, he'd be probably one of the few other positives the Dees would have taken from this season so far.

Seems to be made of the right stuff, and given we're they are at right now, they need those sort of players.

Yeah. I was calling Moloney the knob, by the way, not Neeld. My post looked a little ambiguous in hindsight.

As I see it, Moloney cracked the sads last year. Him leaving was fair enough, indeed you could argue he was pushed. But that swipe just smacks of a lack of class and does Moloney no favours.

the discussion about neeld,s first post game presser, reminds me of a famous pagan post game presser.

pagan after yet another win, went on to list the best players.

listed carey,archer,stevens, blakey,schwass etc.

the only problem was that schwass didnt play that week. you can tell that pagan did his pressers on remote control.

Still not sure that the commentators necessarily appreciate the reality here. Huddo was questioning this morning whether Melbourne's new coach has a year to assess the existing list. Melbourne is not in a position to do anything else but declare an amnesty for most of those players, some of whom would not deserve further opportunities, and see what can be achieved in the next season and a half.

I don't know if it is realistic but Melbourne ought to try and get the new coach in there in the next couple of weeks so that new coach has additional time to have a look at the list. They cannot afford to waste another scrap of talent.

Question: The Luke hodge hit on murphy. To me very much like Lloyd when he collected Sewell. Charged in turned and shoulder to the head. Hodge known as great hard player, Lllooyd sniper dog from hell. Main difference in mine is Lloyd got a nudge in the back. So to all those hawthorn Squibs who want to cry, look in your own backyard at what is a sniper. I dont believe either should have been suspended, but i beieve both should have been treated the same. As for roughhead 2 weeks he should have gotten off the ball. Much like hocking bump in Lenny hayes. So i never want to hear about a Hawthorn supporter sooking about the MRP

Neeld's performance last night on Classified was extraordinary to say the least.

It's pretty easy to see why he sucked as a coach... delusional to the extreme.

When has Moloney ever acquitted himself with class?

The two concepts are mutually exclusive.

I'm really glad he didn't end up with us. I hadn't actually heard him talk before he was on 360 a while ago (when he said he didn't respect Neeld) but it became obvious pretty quickly that he was a bit light in the brains department.

Probably something along the lines of not knowing what went wrong, they trained well, and that they were where he expected them to be in his 3 year plan.

What'd he say?

Hasn't lost the players, Moloney left because of free agency.. He wouldn't budge on anything - basically thinks he did everything right.

Probably the strangest quote was that he didn't get it wrong in appointing the young captains. His logic was that in a 'peer review', they tested the best. Appointing a captain has to be more intangible, IMO.
I mean... it wouldn't be hard to say "in retrospect, even though we thought it was right at the time, we probably should have let the guys develop a bit more before appointing them"

He can't say anything while they're still in the job.

No mention of Moneyball?

To be fair to Neeld, he's probably trying to be careful not to dump too much on the players at this point. Too soon and all that.

He also hasn't had time to properly reflect on it all yet. I highly doubt, in time, that he'll actually still believe that he wouldn't have changed anything.

Neeld in my view did a lot of things wrong. But Melbourne's problems go so much deeper than the coach.

To be fair to Neeld, he is delusional and hopeless.

To be unfair to him... well, even I'm not that mean.

Good happenings for Melbourne, they're on the way back now.
