What on earth does that have to do with it?

A jump and bump to the head is a jump and bump to the head, regardless of whether the other player has the ball.
Well there's a difference in regards to the whole "(x) had no alternative way to contest the ball" thing, but Goodes (seemingly) didn't get off because of that so there's no comparison there. So it's simply Goodes was moving a lot slower, so the contact to Selwood wasn't as forceful. If he was moving at Sidebottom's speed he'd probably be gone for weeks

I guess he'd get low impact. Will read up on it

Where a strike, for example, does not make more than negligible contact, it is still open to the Match Review Panel to charge a
player for attempting to strike where it is satisfied that notwithstanding the result, the intention was to connect with greater force.
All attempts to strike, kick or trip shall be allocated 80 demerit points.

So it's fixed. Don't really agree with that tbh. I guess if it was a haymaker it'd be refereed to the tribunal though

How does that work, considering they take into account the "level of impact" (in other words, the medical report).

We grade the incident as intentional, there was no contact and there was no impact. The club medical report showed no injuries were sustained from the incident so we offer a reprimand down to nothing at all with an early plea. He was a very naughty boy for trying in the first place though.

EDIT: Damn you Phone for ruining my fun with your post a couple of posts back

The beard Bootsma was sporting at the VFL a couple of weeks ago was bad enough alone to warrant loss of job.

A certain player at the Essendon Sponsors night (who shall remain nameless) thought it was, and I quote "****ing horrendous".

I remember talking about it at the pub. Absolute shocker

"we'll cross that bridge when it comes" was football operations boss Andrew McKays response when a journalist alerted his attention to the fact that Bootsma still had another year left to run on his contract.

Surely this situation is laughable enough but to re - select him? seriously

Carlton you could argue have significant evidence that warrants a mid season draft. But then again, Duigan was a rare worst case scenario and Bootsma, well that was his own fault for being a naughty boy

A fair few clubs could do with the mid season draft atm.

Lions desperately need a ruckman (Cameron or Baulderstone)
Hawks and Pies are struggling for bigs and the tigers and blues are just struggling for blokes with hearts.

As much as I agree with the sentiment about a mid season draft. It is just as much about list management as it is with luck.

Geelong at one stage had like 4 - 5 ruck men on there list with another couple potential ruck men (eg. Blicavs).

Last year they had Vardy, Blicavs, Simpson, McIntosh and West on their list.

This hasnt happened in the first half of the season, its been years in the making..

A jump and bump to the head is a jump and bump to the head, regardless of whether the other player has the ball.

Phone eloquently explained the difference - There is a reason that Weller got concussion - That is force - Goodes wasn't cited because there was insufficient force to constitute a reportable offence.

Players have to be so careful with social media - I don't think they will ever get it - Imagine if we sacked everyone who was naughty online - You would sack around 10% of the world's workforce - Read that Bootsma's girlfriend is pregnant and close to full time - I have no idea why AFL footy players want to have babies in the early 20's - They are out of step with Australian mores !

I'd love a mid season draft that includes the ability to sign state league players..

A) would help struggling clubs
B) would make the 2nd half of the season more competitive
C) lessen the impact of 'key' injuries that can derail seasons (like two freak knee injuries to ruckmen)

Perhaps others would be more receptive to the idea if they had access to the kind of income that lets you buy a house and support a family in your early 20s.

It's easy for them to sack duds like Bootsma but if Judd, Gibbs, Murphy did this would they get sacked? Highly doubt it.

That's why these sackings aren't tough at all. Lol Carlton trying to take a stand
Yeah.. smacked of tokenism to me.. we are so good and respectful and righteous.. we are going to sack a guy that we were going to delist at the end of the season anyway.. yay for us.

A number of Aussies are doing OK at this age, but still dont have babies until the 30's. Isn't the average age for marriage - Woman is close to 30 and men is around 32. AFL players are definitely different beasts.

Aussies doing okay at that age also tend to come from vastly different socioeconomic backgrounds than your typical footballer.

But doesn't change the facts that footballers are out of step with social mores. And Dylan Roberton nearly lost his career when his gf/wife wanted to return to Victoria with their newly born child.
