Watching that game tonight made me realise how much I've disconnected from footy this year.

Seriously didn't even really know who half the Eagles players were. I've heard the names but had no idea who was who.

AFL, who gives a ****...

This is what is like for me and clubs outside of Perth. Lots of names that mean nothing to me.

Actually noticed that I don't know much Eagles players either except for those that were around for a while. I was pretty much matching names to faces today.

Noticed Darling got much bigger then what I remember him. Yes it is that bad

Good to see thugs put in their place despite the opposition having scummy support. You take the good with the bad I suppose. It's a shame Gunston got injured though I actually like the dude.

Apparently Kevin Sheedy is working on us getting another blockbuster game at the MCG for 'National Farmers Day' within the first 7 weeks.

I think he may have lost the plot if he thinks that will gather the crowds that the games vs Collingwood and Richmond does. Will probably be against Carlton and Hawthorn considering that it is at the MCG.

If it does gather a huge crowd, I can already hear the crying. "Why does Essendon, the team that undermined the whole competition, get to play in a game that acknowledges the farmers, who help us get our milk?"

"I'll boycott milk until the game is shared around."

"Make it the grand final replay etc"

So am I right in thinking that Hawthorn would have to go to either Perth again or Sydney to reach the GF? I can't see either Adelaide or the Dogs stopping them next week, to be honest. It's a shame they didn't face the winner of the other game, as those two have caused them problems in the recent past.

As fascinating as a Derby prelim would be, I'm hoping Freo get it done today.

I can see the Dogs beating them.

Hawthorn 2015 = Geelong 2010

Hopefully no resurgence for Hawthorn next year though.

A fascinating study in logistics! Yeah there's obviously a very good argument for a Derby GF. I'd just imagine the atmosphere at Subi for a prelim to be something else.

Also the issue of players running the suspension gauntlet in light of the recent bad blood is another subplot. In a GF, that is far less of an issue.

In a GF that's a much bigger issue due to the double points you get for getting suspended, however.

Compared to last night, this match hasn't "felt" like a final.

Edit: Okay, now Sydney are applying the pressure and getting into it.

S. Hill is an absolute superstar.

What I wouldn't give to get a clone of him onto our list!
Freo's 2nd best mid. If Zaharakis was under Lyon he'd be as good IMO.

Doubt it. Hill's strength is his ridiculous running capacity and it leaves Zaharakis for dead. The rest of their games is about equal (though Hill is a beautiful kick, one of the best, Zaharakis lacks a bit of depth).

Yeah, and I reckon at the right club (being Fremantle) Zaka would have that.

Dean Towers looks like such a tantalising prospect though...

It's not meant to be a Zaharakis slagging session, I think Hill is the best wingman in the game and may well be a top 10-15 mid. He is a star.

Who would have thought that the umpires' favoritism of the Swans was enough to overcome the parochial WA crowd in a final?

Is it naive of me to be surprised?
