It emerged on Saturday that North Melbourne player Jamie Macmillan had made the allegation about an umpire. During the game, Macmillan had questioned umpire Mathew Nichols when a free kick to Thomas was not paid after the small forward had ducked into a tackle by Grant Birchall.

I think it was said. North would have received a phone call this morning, and now they have retracted their stance.

You are right about why too, if this came out as fact it would send umpiring back 40 years in regards to respect.

I don't think there's much chance it was said publicly, on the field, to a member of the team the player they're talking about plays on. Behind closed doors during an umpire's meeting is a far, far, far, far more likely place for something like this to take place.

They have previously stated that they train to simulate high contact as its within the rules.

Can you really blame the umpires for not wanting to look stupid? They officiated last night well enough. If I were an umpire I would be highly aware of their tactics and would be looking out for bullshit like this.

If our players could run it would be one thing but they cant do that either. St Kildas young players are all much bigger too.

Parish illustrates the point, really. If anyone seems physically ready it is him but he hardly looks like he has been in a weights room.
