It's partly coincidence, in that the present scenario is distinct from the Malthouse-era Pies/Hawks/Cats rock-paper-scissors dynamic.Geelong just bizarrely do not match up well on them.
Today's Geelong has a shallow, soft midfield and can be had if you go hard at them and have the talent to pull it off. For all their faults (and in large contribution to some of them) Collingwood have an excellent midfield group, but Buckley also approached the game the right way.
Greenwood sat on (a seemingly injury-restricted) Dangerfield at stoppages and Treloar sacrificed his game to keep him honest around the ground, with Greenwood moving to Selwood. With those two under control the rest were roadkill.
