Cousins??? Nah.

Lloyd?? Not sure about that.

Fletcher? Burgoyne? Cyril?
Fletcher beat Gary Ablett Snr pointless one day at KP , when Fletcher was still a schoolboy , 17 i think he was

Ablett in the 3rd qtr was moved from FF to a hff to get him away from Fletchers telescopic arms .

Pretty good effort from a 17yr old id reckon , we are all allowed our opinions and that is why i rated Fletcher better than Scarlett , because Fletcher was good , really good right from game 1 , where as Scarletts 1st 40 odd games were shocking , and he even admitted he was worried he would get delisted

I doubt Kingsley would've kicked a bag on Scarlo - he did on Fletcher twice.

I wouldnt say pointless. Ablett had 6 shots at goal And kicked 3 goals 3.

but it was an exceptional effort by fletcher.

having said that ive seen kent kingsley and clint bizzell both tear fletcher apart (twice each).

REPORT: CLAYTON OLIVER SENT HOME FROM DEMONS PRE-SEASON CAMP FOR PERSONAL MEDICAL REASONS

Clayton Oliver has departed Melbourne’s training camp in Lorne to deal with personal medical challenges, according to Mitch Cleary.

Speaking on SEN Afternoons, Cleary revealed that Oliver left Lorne just one day into the four-day camp.

“It’s day three of the Demons’ four-day training camp at the moment,” Cleary said.

“We arrived at training this morning to see no Clayton Oliver on the Great Ocean Road. He actually headed home Monday night.

Read more at link below.

Clayton certainly has some issues going on
Good that there is plenty of time to sort it out- the rest of his life, in reality, but in footy terms, not too concerning right now.

Does Melb risk blowing an era ina West Coast type way? Most think they should have won more after two GF's in 05 and 06.
I don't think they were beating us in 2022, we had insane form, insane injury run, guys that his their straps in September.

But 2023 was a massive waste for quite a few clubs. A very weak Collingwood beat an also weak Brisbane (barely). Melbourne at their best in 2023 was better then both clubs but couldn't stay on the rails. Our best this year was better than Pies/Brisbane peak but we had a dogshit run with injuries.

Demons fans I know are already looking back on this era like the Bombers fans I know do with 1999-2002.
Demons 1 flag, 2 straight sets finals drop outs when really in 2022/2023 they should have been minimum PF.

Edit: need to stress the Demons fans I know don't think their team was as good as 2000s Essendon, more that they should have more than 1 flag in 3 years to show for it.

I think we were lucky to avoid playing them outside Geelong in 2022. Midfield and ruck was our kryptonite which is their absolute strength. 6-6-6 in that match up can get ugly quickly like the 2021 prelim. The respective form at finals time, then yeah we probably beat them if we played, but was happy to avoid them.

I guess I was think about self imposed occurrences which capped or reduced what should have been a better era. Its fair question on why Ess did not go on and play Brisbane more often. I doubt the Pies were a better side.

Ya reckon? They've lost 4 straight finals at the MCG since their Perth flag.

A heads up. I’ve just endured reading Joel Selwood’s biography All In. Joel is a terrific, brave, hard working leader and player but - apart from admitting being grumpy about starting on the bench - this book is full of PR platitudes and zero insights on this unique footy era. The chapters on IVF will provide much-needed hope for many, but otherwise this is a miss. Sorry.

I have been given a couple of copies over the Christmas period and been meaning to read. I can't say I would be surprised. I'll still read it but hoping for some leadership of people talk.

As for the ivf discussion, I have three kids and after the load of sugar and associated behaviour I've seen in the last 72 hours I'd be half inclined to give them away to good homes.

Why "good" homes?

Never finished it, usually I read the first 100 pages before I buy them. I didn't this time, there isn't much substance to it.
