Pretty stupid thread. No wonder people on the main board say our own supporters turn on our own after a loss.

Would have had 2 goals on the weekend if Maric hadn't touched it, would have had one of the best i50 passes of the game if Maric had marked it.

So many times Martin was able to, game over game, get the ball out of contests when other players couldn't and then follows up by being there again for other players to pass to him (similar to Cotchin, just not as good). Considering how bad most players were on the weekend I'd be looking elsewhere.

Also Vickery kept trying so I don't know what people are saying with him "giving up". Granted he didn't take many marks in the forward 50 but how many marks were there all over the ground? What he did do was kept chasing and gave a great handball to Edwards who then went on to goal. Don't try and cheer Edwards on without giving credit to the guys that got him there, all you're doing is looking at stats which doesn't indicate the contribution players are making.

Jack injured himself, he was never going to finish the game well, should have been subbed off but Jack will keep trying to play even if he's injured because he wants to do his best for the team and leave the sub available for someone else. Selfish Jack, selfish.

I don't think Dustin has been great this season , I don't speak for others and most certainly don't think he should be dropped . However I can understand why some may won't him dropped for not playing up to their expectations , as some had unrealistic and unfillable expectations of him.

He hasn't played as great as previous seasons but as many have already said, he's been getting more attention. Also our game plan is a bit different. But you also have to remember how good he did play when he first started, he's probably at level this year for his age/game time.

off in perceived form . As I said no risk of being dropped IMO and talk of such is others making him the victim of their unrealistic expectations .

It's not an unrealistic expectation to want someone to work harder when the opponent has the ball; we demand it of the other 21 players on the day. Why shouldn't we demand it of Martin? Like I said, he has those great offensive weapons (despite him being out of form currently,) but his defensive side needs work. How is he different to the players that have been dropped for that very reason?

EDIT: I should note that though I started this thread specifically about Martin, the very same thing could be applied to Houli. It's not just Martin.

He wasn't the best and has at times looked a bit lazy, but like team as a whole this year so far. He has enough credits in the bank to allow the odd day off the boil.

Houli seems to b a protected species , surely dimmer must cringe at his lack of awareness and pathetic attack on the footy at times.

When you want to drop someone who's not playing their best but still manages to (IMO) rate in the top 10 every week then I feel sorry for all those players below him.

Houli I've made comments about in previous Autopsy threads but his positives usually outweigh the one or two problems I usually have with him. He just had a really bad game on the weekend.

I think everyone is just tired and we need the bye, we've had 10 weeks of pretty solid games that are taking their toll on young players, give them a break.

Martin has gone slightly backwards this year but poor game aside on the weekend (worst of the year) he's still playing well each week, just not dominating. Hardly a crime for a 3rd year player to not be a superstar yet. Maybe that's what people expected this year but it's not reality.

Vickery was as useful as **** on a bull yesterday. He's the one under the pump IMO. Doing stupid little dancing gigs with a laugh at half time when he (and the team) were playing like millionaires.

The plot has thickened over that little limpdance too.

He's in a form slump unfortunately, it was due to happen eventually, he's only in his 3rd year after having 2 outstanding seasons. He will turn it around soon enough, dropping him is not the answer though.

To me he seems not to be working hard enough, he runs hard and jumps up and down offensively, but this season he hasn't looked as desperate when it's going the other way. The coaches will iron it out and he will be back to his best soon enough, a game against GWS could kick start his season.

I dont know about dropping him. But Dimma certainly needs to get into him about playing within his limitations and playing percentages. It is great that he has a lot more tricks than other players and hopefully with work/time his limits expand but atm he does have limitations and he needs to play within them, especially when confidence is down.

In the last quarter that ridiculous torpedo punt that he attempted and completely butchered was massive for us. What's wrong with kicking a lazy 60m drop punt, which he is capable of doing, which could have resulted in a goal to Jack running back and probably the game rather than trying to get a 60+ torpedo which probably would have had more or less the same result but is much harder to pull off and consequently landed in Mcpharlins arms.

Id rather him kick 40-60m and hit the target most times than what he is doing now. But...having said that, to become a great player you do sometimes have to go for the unbelievable etc so hopefully he can start pulling them off more times than not. Maybe try drop punts in the old form slump. Just my opinion.

The coach will I'm sure get into him about the areas of his game that need fixing but is still far too damaging a player... even going at 80% to leave out.
The whole team (bar a couple of guys) underperformed on Saturday.
A tough week on the track with a few 'home truths' behind closed doors will get them right.

Far too much overeaction re this loss.
As dissapointed as it was, the fact is that Freo have some quality players who themselves have been under the pump and so were always going to play 100% hard at it footy... the wet weather assisted them to do so and we played dumb footy.

Witness recent results... Demons beating Essendon (in the wet), Bears beat Eagles etc...
Modern footy in a relatively even season provides for upsets.

I'm sure the Hawks and Saints reckon our wins over them were upsets...

So Freo loss hurts but as long as we keep beating those teams beneath us and grab a couple against finals contenders then it is not the end of the world.

Expecting us to go in very hard v The Giants this week and get the result.

I think this may turn out to be the year that Dusty had to have. He was so built up by everyone in the media and the Tiger fanbase, obtaining almost a 'cult status' in just 2 years, and at the age of 19 he was always going to buy into his own hype at least a bit.

He'll realize this year that while he has some immensely good qualities he has a long way to go and a lot of hard work to do before he reaches a consistent standard of footy that can be called anything near 'elite'.

I'm not worried at all about this kid. Good head on strong shoulders. He will be a top ten midfielder in another 4 years time.

Well at least it's not as bad another fan site I read where it was suggested we should've accepted the Swanette's offer of picks 6 & 14 for Martin's pick. Jetta & Rohan may win plenty of games for them in the future, but Martin (and Cotchin) will win us premierships.

Martin is in a select group of players that should never get dropped unless injured in my opinion - he is a demonstrated match winner and easily one of our most damaging players. A player of his class would be wasted at Coburg. Just because he hasn't set the world alight as often this year doesn't mean he should be dropped, he would be on par or ahead of most (if not all) his contemporaries taken in the same draft.

Unfortunately, where we are at with a list means we don't have anyone of even a somewhat close level to come in and replace him. Sure we could drop him but that would hurt his confidence and also means we give the opposition one less tough match up (giving more attention to Cotch, Lids, Conca, Grigg, Foley etc). I agree with Tugga's call, let him play up forward with stints in the middle (He probably doesn't have the tank to be a pure onballer just yet). Might also help give Jack and TV out by being another headache for the opposition.

not sure why he doesnt use his left foot more, has shown he can kick very well on both sides but seems to be getting caught out trying to go to his right a lot more this year.
